Sven Golly... Demanding a refund!

Replies

When you go to the store and buy a variety pack of something, lets just say cereal, and it comes with 3 different cereals, are you only buying one and the other two are bonuses? Or are all three cereals part of the purchase?

Not even close to an apt comparison. An apt comparison would be buying a box of cereal at regular price with a toy inside then later demanding a refund on the cereal when you see the store giving the same toy away for free as a promotion.

No, because the toy inside is a bonus. If you are advertising the character as part of the purchase, such as the photo seen a few posts back, then it is part of the purchase.

If you want to say the character is a bonus, then so be, I believe it isnt, the extra 100 donuts, as advertised, is the bonus.

Everyone has their own opinion, including the original poster, not everyone is going to agree with it. But I would say that my comparison is pretty close.

I’d be more than happy to give back the donuts I got with my Sven Golly purchase, less the amount Sven cost in the Black Friday event, provided I got my cash refunded.

The original point is correct. Players were sold Sven Golly under the premise that it was only available for a limited time via a cash purchase. It’s nothing short of sharp practice. I too bought Sven Golly and feel unfairly treated. £50 for a donut factory that only makes 6 donuts a day (instead of the 12 originally leaked), and will probably now be offered at some point in the future for donuts? Get stuffed, EA.

I bought Sven Golly too and I totally agree it's unfair for a character bought for money should be offered for donuts, especially so quickly.
EA should refund all those who paid cash for this character.
I'll also be thinking very carefully before buying any other characters offered for cash in the future.

  • It's things like this that made me make a decision long ago that I'll always play a game freemium/f2p from then on... I hadn't spent a huge amount of money when a particular game decided to suddenly drop my platform.... with only a half **** way of switching to another....

It's right there on the screen under the word bonus. You can't credibly pretend it isn't. This game has never advertised any of this stuff as anything but a bonus for buying donuts. It's especially evident since they always offer the extras at no extra cost.
  • And let’s not forget at the time that Sven Golly was not available any other way than to spend cash. He was not offered for purchase separately via donuts, nor via a quest line. Therefore the argument that the purchase included Sven as a bonus is complete round hairy objects - it was the one and only way you could get him.

This has got to be a joke thread right? You did NOT pay money for Sven. You PAID for donuts, those donuts came with a bonus character of Sven, which was limited for that event. It did not say this character would never be available in the game again. If you assumed that, tough luck. If that's the only reason why you bought those donuts, lesson learnt.

You guys are seriously acting like the money only went on the character, you got the donuts AND the character so quit your whining. I'm sure you've already spent the donuts you got anyways.

when you have 10,000 donuts already, you are buying the character.

How many donuts you already have is completely irrelevant.

And no you are NOT buying the character. Take another look at the screenshot in the previous page. You are BUYING a tray of 132 donuts. That is what you PURCHASED. There are other items that coming with that purchase as a BONUS. It does not state anywhere that you are BUYING the character, nor does it say that it will never be available in the game again.
  • I bought the character, not the donuts.

The in game pop up at the time was for the character with a bonus of some donuts, not for donuts with the bonus of a character. *rolls eyes* :(

    Wrong.

Look at the screenshot yourself. The bonus is the 100 extra donuts. The word “bonus” is next to a donut AND it says “100 Bonus Donuts”, not “100 Bonus Donuts & A Bonus Character”. AND there was no other way to get the character.

No. The fact it was an exclusive bonus for a donut purchase doesn't mean it wasn't a bonus. Exclusivity doesn't change anything. It cost $9.99 to buy 132 donuts with or without Sven Golly. That content is an enticement to purchase premium currency for real money. If it wasn't, you wouldn't have to purchase it in the currency section of the store. Because you are buying premium currency.

    On the wiki
    https://simpsonswiki.com/wiki/Sven_Golly
He is listed as free with the purchase of the Tray of Donuts
    On addicts:
    https://tstoaddicts.com/2018/04/02/should-you-buy-sven-golly/
"Basically spend $9.99 on a Tray of 132 donuts and get 100 bonus donuts (so 232 donuts total) and Sven Golly."

Please SHOW me where it says you are buying the character? Like I said, you are BUYING a tray of 132 donuts. Another else that comes with it was a BONUS.

  • Anybody else sick of this thread??
It's like a train wreck and you can't help but look even though you know what you will see.
  • So are all of you that are upset about buying Sven Golly for real money ok with the fact that literally tens of thousands of people purchased 132 donuts (NOT 232 BTW) for $9.99 for years, and got nothing? Because you seem to think $9.99 for 132 donuts is a theoretically "different" $9.99 for 132 donuts as long as there's a character included.

Also, the cereal box prize metaphor is spot on.

Your opinion is yours, my opinion is mine, original posters opinion is theirs, everyone who posted has opinions too, bottom line, there is no right answer. I personally am not asking for a refund, but I very much know where the OP is coming from.
Doesn’t stop EA from continually being vote worst company of the year. The WORST. Nothing is worse because they are the Worst, again I say google it. WORST.

But I got the football phone for only $5 a year later with no subscription...
