We might be losing Leon.. Michael Jackson episode pulled from Simpsons.

Simpsons' Episode Guest-Starring Michael Jackson Pulled From Circulation

Executive producer James L. Brooks, creator Matt Groening and showrunner Al Jean collectively made the decision to pull the episode from recirculation after they watched the HBO documentary 'Leaving Neverland.'
The Simpsons' top creatives have decided to remove an episode featuring the voice of Michael Jackson from streaming platforms, networks re-running the show and forthcoming physical copies such as box sets, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Executive producer James L. Brooks, creator Matt Groening and showrunner Al Jean collectively made the decision to pull the episode "Stark Raving Dad" from recirculation after they watched the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland, which alleges child sexual abuse on the part of the "Bad" singer. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report the news. 20th Century Fox declined comment.
"It feels clearly the only choice to make,” Brooks told The Wall Street Journal. "The guys I work with — where we spend our lives arguing over jokes — were of one mind on this."
The episode, the premiere of the animated series' third season, aired in 1991, featured Jackson playing Leon Kompowsky, a man who believes he is Michael Jackson. Homer Simpson meets Kompowsky in a mental institution where he is briefly committed; because he does not know Michael Jackson, he believes Kompowsky is the real deal, and when he returns home with his new friend, all of Springfield shows up to see the pop star. Jackson, a fan of the show, offered to guest star and was originally credited under the pseudonym "John Jay Smith." While Jackson spoke his character's lines, a voice double sang for him.
As of Thursday night, the episode still remained available to view on the FXX streaming platform. Brooks noted to the Journal that “this was a treasured episode. There are a lot of great memories we have wrapped up in that one, and this certainly doesn’t allow them to remain.”
Leaving Neverland features the testimony of Wade Robson and James Safechuck, two men who met Jackson and spent time with him as boys. The men and their families allege that Jackson groomed the boys for sexual abuse, showed them **** and repeatedly told them not to tell others about their encounters.
Since Leaving Neverland debuted on HBO on Sunday and Monday nights to a sizable documentary audience for the channel, Canadian radio stations have removed Jackson songs from their playlists and a Jackson statue was removed from Britain's National Football Museum.

Do you think we are going to lose Leon from the game?

  • We didn’t lose Edna, I doubt we will lose Leon

If Marcia Wallace was accused of something similar to MJ you'd have a valid point. It's just not the same thing or even close.
  • No big loss.

Doubt it we will. The Leon in our game has no ties to MJ. He is not voiced & his storyline had nothing to do with MJ.

I think the most they do will be to never make him available again.

I would usually agree, but the level of hypersensitivity right now might prompt someone from the show to contact the game makers and delete all content related to the character. It could affect any game they licensed that also included that character. IDK.

But to risk being the company who didn't acknowledge the situation? That may not be something EA wants to do either. In this Trumpian era i would not be surprised to see the character removed. Companies want to be seen as compassionate. They rarely actually care. But it's a bad move to be profiteering from an alleged "pee-doh".

Or not. There's a lot of dirty things happening lately that are just being shrugged off. It'll be interesting to see if anything changes.

Thanks for posting the article above. It's interesting to learn the "happy birthday Lisa" song was a voice double. Lol tv is so fake
All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!

It feels strange to say, but I hope this isn't the case. While what MJ did is absolutely abhorrent, I still wish to bring this character into my town eventually. His in-game representation has no ties to his voice actor, so I hope EA doesn't react to this extreme, or the extreme of complete removal.

    Amen. Shamon.
  • the thing about MJ has been known for ages. if they didn't want that they'd have not put it in the game

  • If they do the remove the character I would expect us all to be compensated with the relevant amount of donuts.

So for a one of character from a particularly special Simpsons episode and going by recent gill deals I would expect 300 donuts rising to 450 in a years time.
  • I still own the DVD set of the season that featured this episode, so that will never change. While I understand the decision to pull the episode from streaming and syndication, because "Leon" is not voiced in the game, it makes little sense to pull the character.
  • There is an NPC zombie from Treehouse of Horror XXVI Nightmares that is modelled after MJ's Thriller zombies from the video. I wonder if they would pull that too?

    Is it voiced by MJ?
Whoa, whoa, whoa – I only accept cash, bitcoin, or GameStop stock.
  • I don't have it, but I would say probably not.
