Following the Springfield Guide

  • Here’s a question for you folks - what to do with stuff that is on the show, in game, but not on the map?

I’m already answering that question for myself by reviewing the episodes buildings appear in and looking for landmarks as guideposts. Sometimes, even the map can help.

    Examples:

Alley MacBalls from Four Regrettings and a Funeral. The building is actually only in one scene in a flashback to 2001(!), so it can really go anywhere, but best suited between brick buildings. Since I missed out on the Pin Pals update, it’s found a home in my Springfield across from the Bowl-a-Rama.

Burns State Prison from The Seven-Beer Snitch. This began life as the Springfield concert hall and looked like it had Springfield Park in the background. But later shots, especially when it was a prison, had it closer to town with Springfield Elementary and SNPP in the background. I chose to place it on the green garden patch below the Natural History Museum based on this.

Woosterfield Hotel from Double, Double, Boy in Trouble. This is tough since we only have one shot of the exterior and it’s an upshot of the sign. Conjecture then relies on other locations in the show. Bart is driven from the hotel to Springfield Heights, so that rules out the Heights as a home. That would also mean the hotel can’t be in a run down section of town since it’s of reasonable class based on interiors and ownership. Scanning the map, lo and behold, I found a spot that could work. On the map next to Moe’s and King Toot’s, there is a spot just marked “Hotel”. I chose this location, justifying it as a close spot Lenny would pick for his event.

I can be persuaded otherwise and would love to hear thoughts and discussions. Granted, not everyone has these buildings, so it may be irrelevant. But something to spitball anyway as my Springfield remodel continues apace.

It’s a tough call. If there is no definitive location that can be figured out from the buildings episode, I will put the building in a location on the map that is similar. For instance, we had 2 buildings released recently (Slaughterhouse, and that caboose eatery). I put the Slaughterhouse in the correct location. Since the other eatery is not on the map, I put it in a location that is currently unoccupied, but has a similar distinction as the unreleased building. So basically put the eatery in place of another eatery that hasn’t been released yet.

I also typically will NOT put “fantasy” buildings in my Springfield. Like Halloween buildings that don’t really exist in SF. I set those buildings off to the side.

@mattperiolat Welcome back to our addictive lifestyle game. In trying to follow the map, I too have had many of the same questions you have asked.

As far as SH, I used it for things beyond the mountains on the game, with some creativity. I have rich beach section, added mountains, an Around the World park, a furturistic Springfield street, NASA, a casino, Seething Sisters and a western park. I wish they would add more land here, as I would like to expand the desert area.

With regards to catching up, remember that the redwood and pile of gold will still be there later on. Focus on your priorities, or Christmas.

As far as buildings not on the map, these get moved around quite a bit into open areas in my game. That is unless I find a permanent home within my design, which Alley McBalls did in my bowling area.

Have fun with it and have a happy return.

PS - I may steal a few of your ideas.

Feel free. It’s a good excuse to rewatch episodes, work it out in my brain and share. Granted, I’ll probably end like Homer firing a shotgun to draw a crowd, but it’ll be funny, right?
  • Hey guys, I've been working at making my own accurate Springfield and just stumbled across this... so I'm suoer stoked!

I've added a couple of you to my neighbour's if you want to accept, and anyone can feel free to add me.

I'll contribute where I can with things... but it's nice to have some people to bounce ideas off of!
  • Welcome to the SF Guide @Grendrill !
  • I'm curious how you take the picture of your Springfield so the whole area is shown?

I haven't gone off of the grid format on the map, but I did however, go off the placement on the map.
I also felt that fitting everything onto the current map wasn't going to work, so I anticipated further land releases on my town planning and also left spaces for buildings that I hope they will eventually release.

So I'd like to upload it and get some feedback on it.
My most proud items are the Golf course, Cemmetary, University, my layout (so far) for Pressboard Estates the preplanning for (hopefully) Marine World.

Any feedback or criticisms from those that I have as neighbour's are welcome - also feel free to add me.
I've done alot of referencing of screen shots and episodes to get everything as accurate as I possibly can.

    Thanks guys!

I use Photoshop to do my town panoramas but you can use GIMP or Paint to do them as well.
My town is not completely accurate to the map but it is close. I have so much stuff that I placed buildings in town where I thought others might be released one day so I could just switch it out.
    Welcome to our small group!

Thanks for adding me! Had a chance to review your town while I was squashing Funzos (God, they are creepy...) and I approve! You are off to a great start and hope you get what you want out of the holiday to make it better.

Speaking of which, while I like the Christmas decor so far, I’m feeling a bit cold so far. Maybe better when I get the rink unlocked, but so far, I’m kind of disappointed so little tied into the actual show and on the map is getting released this year. Wait and see, hope for more!

I agree, I'm not a big fan of "game specific items", I like it alot more when they draw from the show.

Most everything is from the show. It may not be cannon and it may not be on the map, but that happens a lot at Halloween and Christmas. Still, we forge onward.

Mainly what I mean... probably just sticks in my mind to because I only got back into it in October

True, guess I just am so married to the map and show, if it’s not there, it’s more annoyance than cool.

Then again, if it gives money...

It is disappointing when there is nothing new that is on the map. :(
  • They brought back Irregular Christmas Trees! Done and done! Currently parked in my forest. Also moved my Nativity set and the Romans in the tree into the forest. Since I lack a Praiseland, this will be a placeholder based on the Simpsons Christmas Stories episode.

There are some returning items coming up that are on the map. If you don't have them, keep an eye out.
    Wooly Bully
    Temple Beth Springfield
    Springfield Skating Rink
    Slide Factory
    Santa's Village

Have two of the five you have listed. Trying to get the Slide Factory and REALLY want Temple Beth. Lots of good stuff this year!
  • No Chinese Restaurant on the map, but there is a Chinese Smorgasbord in the same block as Larry's Chinese Theater - to the right of Moe's, King Tuts and It Blows. I'm going to add the restaurant here to represent the Chinese district. Thankfully it is small and that block is open.

    Copied this idea
  • With hours to go on the clock, picked up the Springfield Animal Shelter. It’s not on the map, but I-(Annoyed Grunt)-Bot had it under the Expressway, so currently I have it slated to go north of Springfield Mall, to the right of the Bus Depot.

Oh, and technical difficulties solved and I finally picked up Duff Gardens. Hoorah! (Faints on the steering wheel)
  • I would really like some feedback on my railroad that I just put through my SF based on the guide. I spent a few hours getting it as close to the guides railroad. If any of my friends get time, please check it out! Any ideas to make it better are appreciated.
