Following the Springfield Guide

Replies

  • I did my major design to fit the map two years ago. I have no plans to expand my whole town again. I have just fit items in near where they go and with this new land I may shift some of my town to the north but not by a lot. Unfortunately, this has made my town less and less close to the map.
  • I never thought I would see the day that I think there is too much land available and that spreading the items from the map out over all the land would be too spread out.
    What do you all think?

I stopped expanding my Springfield proper a few land expansions ago. My Springfield expanded across all the available land running with the water, but did not expand all the way up the mountains. I have been using the extra land to build Shelbyville, Capitol City, a haunted forest, Outlands, and some tourist areas based on events that didn't fit town - a desert, an ice city, and a Efcot Centre. I plan to expand these outlying areas and my airport as I will run my runways further out.

I had to shift parts of mine across by two squares to create more space for new buildings in the congested downtown area. It took AAAAGES. Several hours. I figured it would be easy to select everything and move it, but when you touch the roads in one place it turns the every double road into dotted lines instead of keeping the solid divider. So annoying. I also had to re-draw the river a bit. Still, it's done now and hopefully won't have to be done again for a while.

Yeah it is time consuming. I usually delete the roads and put them back in or group store them to keep my device from lagging while moving stuff.
I also have some room in my friends list if anyone wants to be neighbors. I am afraid I am a poor neighbor in visiting all the time but I do like a look around :) ID is the same as my username here

Your town is coming along nicely @yamiloco . I love the National Forest area. Very nice.

@EllieGuseman could you post the current most land, gridded map? It's 33 from mountains East to West. And 36/37 from water South to North. Technically it's 37, but the beach only counts as 4x3, not 4x4, and it's marked as "zero" on the above map.

  • Blockoland is on the map (off the map, lol). It is the very bottom left of the map.

Wowowow I was not expecting to see this project still going! But I should have known better. The guide is the guide, and OCD is OCD! Thank you so much @EllieGuseman and @rockyb2006 for keeping this thread updated after all these years!

Geez, they still haven't given you any more land northwest of the mountains? That would have driven me crazy by now.

    OCD is OCD.
Nice to see you after all this time @Bravewall . i thought something bad happened to you.
Yeah that land in SH is a sore spot. The game has changed a bit since you were last here.
  • @Bravewall what a surprise to have you check in! When I first started following the guide (I want to say it was 2015), I actually pulled up your SF on my desktop and copied your layout square by square EXACTLY. I’m talking a 100% copy of every item where you had it, lol.

And @EllieGuseman is really the one to thank. I feel like I’m just along for the ride. Any time I need a new land graph layout, or an updated map with in game content, Ellie gets it done.
