this bug seems to be mainly triggered by tapping too many completed character jobs at once. tapping more than ~3-5 characters at once seems to be the main culprit in all of these crashes. your best course is to tap as few characters at a time as you can (try to tap them one at a time whenever possible). if there are too many in one area, move the building/decoration to somewhere isolated and tap it there. after getting those out of the way (and MANY restarts...), i was able to tap the rest of the buildings in my springfield with minimal crashes here and there. i guess the best thing we can do right now is not send characters on jobs. this obviously sucks, since the vast majority of my income comes from character jobs, but it looks like the only course of action right now.

update: place your IRS building in storage. it makes a HUGE difference

it'll still crash after storing the irs building. you just have to go painfully slow, tapping one or two characters at a time and waiting for the money to collect. if you go too fast, it'll crash. and if a building is crashing every time you tap it (aka too many characters sent to do jobs there) just bite the bullet and place it in storage. you'll lose out on money, but you can at least continue on in the game.

A few points from the ‘Not Working’ thread:

I also have the same problem and have been playing for many years. So I got creative and basically first cleared all the buildings $$ with Skyfinger. Then kept clearing all character jobs 30 seconds at a time until they were all cleared out too. If the game crashed and wouldn't let me clear a group of characters then I would place the building in storage to clear the jobs and then replace the building. Now all jobs were cleared & money collected. The new game started and quickly before the app closed again I put the Simpsons to task. I go back and double check to make sure all the tasks took, and when all is good repeat again 4 hours later. So even with this glitch/bug I have been able to play between the 30 sec drops and am on my last task!! It just takes a little patience but it can be played in the meanwhile.
Still crashing after 30s to a minute BUT if I can get to a piece of land with no buildings or decorations I can farm bloodmobiles for around ten minutes. This has worked for me several times. There must be a reason for this but I can't think what. It's worth a shot if you need more donuts and you are affected by the bug.
I can get into the game, but it crashes when I try to collect finished quest "thumbs". I managed to move my Sky Finger monument to a remote location, so I could at least use that to get the building income.
The best way I have found to play the game is to place next to The Simpsons house a teleporter is much easier to move to another location where is Skyfinger (my only income at the time) and an empty area to place the buildings from the event and place bloodmobiles to generate donuts. Also I found out when you unlock an event or premium building is better to store it first and then place it. If you do not have any of the Frinks teleporters you can use the Krustyland shuttle or the Nicks Bowling shop.

  • disregard what i said about moving buildings around. that problem was resolved by placing the irs building in storage.
  • oh, and as i mentioned before, this only concerns character jobs. once you've cleared all of those out of the way, you can place the irs building back into your springfield and knock out the building revenue.
  • Actually mine crashed without touching anything. Just scrolling seems to crash it.

Well... I tried quite a few things on this, left the game to run without touching it to see how long it lasts (it soon froze) and even contemplated nuking...

So anyway, I spent some time on this... managed to free all 200 or whatever characters I had in my walking Kwik-e-mart...

Long story short I found that as I manually tasked people back to it, it would freeze on certain characters, so whenever I got back in, I would store that particular character and move on...

I got to the point where I could go in and do the next stage of the event and currently on schedule to finish week 2, so that's all I am doing for now, I had about 3000 doughnuts, so am able to buy all the event items so far.. even managed to get time to buy a load of pastel fences which I never had the chance to get before...

For the record... I had stored

    Nelson (Muntz House)
    Barney (Bowlarama)
    Mel (Krustylu Studios)
Carl (Springfield Buddhist Temple) [NB Also stores Lenny too, who wasn't actually causing me to crash]
For some reason this triggered a task completion noise, but I have over 130 tasks in my book... so it could have been anything!
    Dr. Hibbert (Hibbert Family Practice)
    Legs (Fat Tony's Compound)

and standalones Bumblebee Man, Dr. Nick and Fat Tony ... at that point I had run out of time and haven't bothered to find more...

A note as well about the Insanity Cauldron... I stored that and it made the noise I hear on the splash screen just before I enter game, change to what sounds like a film reel playing a film... I have stored Googleplex, Aztec Theatre and Channel 6 to see if that changes anything there...

Also thrown Sky Finger monument because that was crashing it as well and Little Lisa's Recycling plant in for good measure..

And just because it helps me, I managed to move my Simpson's house to somewhere I have space to build so that I can place event buildings I might need, saves me trying to scroll to somewhere and have my game crash before I do

Just stored the IRS building and it seems to move a little quicker but still crashes...

I'm probably just gonna baby step the event and not bother about anything else and see what the next store update brings...
You just had to look didn't ya!...
  • OK... I nuked..

But not my main town..

I tried an old account I had been using as a sandbox and it kept freezing whilst trying to do things... so decided to nuke it

It's now running perfectly fine...

I have brought out every building, (including IRS) every character, every decoration...to see if something coming out froze the game and hence isolate a problem.... but game seems to run perfectly fine..

    Some things I noted though...

    1) Some Krustyland visitors appeared not long after nuking and some dialogue came up about them.. I had yet to place anything in this town other than the Krustyland shuttle...

    2) Visiting my town freezes the game within 30 seconds...

    3) There was no noise on the splash screen until I'd brought lots of stuff out, then it triggered a noise I don't hear on mine...

    4) I visited myself twice, first time I click three buildings and got IGC/XP/FP ... second time, those building were clear but I was able to tap three more...

I'm done trying to figure it out for now....
You just had to look didn't ya!...
  • It doesnt matter if I tap people or buildings. Even just scrolling crashes it. Tried several times to store the IRS building as suggested but I cant stay logged on long enough to do that.

Exactly. I can't come anywheare near mu IRS building, its all the way across my town I can't get anywhere near it. In fact I can't go 2 ft from the simpsons house before it crashes. The event will be over by the time EA does anything. And this far into the event I doubt they will do anything at all. They officially don't care, I'm convinced they don't care. And something tells me I may not be able to play it at all even after the event....I think EA put something into the game to make it so I can't play it, the only way I play it is on Bluestacks. And for me no other android emulator works on my system[my new custom built PC] I don't play games on my phone, I refuse to because I am against that.

Have you tried moving the Simpson's house to where your IRS building is at or close to It as possible? Or use the yellow arrow button next to Bart/Milhouse to move around your Springfield? I also notice if the characters have voice dialog and it gets tapped while collecting cash or set a character task it will crash. I usually wait until the character stop talking before setting a task/collect cash.

Characters I notice causes the crashes the most are: Dr. Hibbert/ And wife, both of the Canadian Flanders, Kearney, Lenny/Carl, Smithers and little Homer I'm sure there are more. I either store them tapping the yellow directional symbol or ignore them. By doing this I'm able to move around my town better. It still crashes like crazy but I'm able to clear a lot better. Towns B & C I move around easier then town A lvl 939 with 300+ characters lags and crashes a lot even before this terrible update but I was still able to play the game longer than 10-20 seconds at a time.
That's what I had to do. I'll be glad once this get fixed and soon.

You got a great looking town~168sean... Checked out your town, WOW! ~daved
  • ^Did you update the game on your tablet? There was a new patch update that the crash might have been fixed for most devices that were affected.
Do not add me as a friend in the game anymore as I rarely visit my friends' towns. Not adding anymore too

Yes, I sure did @jaythecanadian .. and thanks for checking. I'm not sure what the issue is this time, but the game and iOS are all up to date.
