Captain Marvel (2019). Entertaining watch. I cannot see the actions clearly whenever the scene happens in a dark place. Not emotionally connected though. Wonder Woman is still a better female lead superhero film.

The last film that I watched was Bohemian Rhapsody. Cool movie. I'm a fan of the Queen.
  • Watched Triple Frontier last night on Netflix. Not a bad heist film. Impressive cast made it a decent watch.

Extreme Jobs (2019) A Korean comedy thriller film. Quite an interesting storyline. Thrill wise is quite average. Light refreshing watch though.
  • I watched the new Wreck it Ralph movie the other day. It wasn't bad, not as good as the first one I felt. The first half of it was really good, but I felt it kind of drug on and wasn't as fun during the second half.

    A Chinese Odyssey Part One : Pandora's Box (1995)

A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella (1995)

These Hong Kong films were released as two parts and both have to be watched to get the complete story. They have been shown on TV numerous times in the past but I have never really paid attention until my latest rewatch. The story was loosely based off the Monkey King. It is a comedy, to the extent of being nonsensical and slapstick. But it is also a tale of love and sacrifice. These films have been regarded as Hong Kong's classic and are widely considered as masterpieces by critics. There are a few pretty actresses in it that are hugely popular. This film female characters are all highly empowered, something that no one really makes a fuss about. One of the actresses have tragically passed away last year living alone in a sorry state. The effects during that time are mainly practical effects and yet fun to watch. There is also an awesome touching love song. Monkey King is played by Stephen Chow, the comedy king from HK. Overall this is an essential Hong Kong classic film.

A Chinese Odyssey: Part Three (2016) A sequel to the successful 1995 series by the same director and writer but with an entire different cast other than one actress with a cameo appearance. The cast members are mainly from China. They lacks the charms and experiences of the original cast. The acting is terrible and the lead actress looks very plastic and wooden. The story line is complicated for no good reasons and generally ended in action sequences with bad CGI. Jokes are contrived and most of it were borrowed from the 1995 film. The entire film is soulless and disconnected with the audience. I actually rewatched the 1995 films so as to watch this one. In the end, this film is an unnecessary sequel just to earn money.

Captain Marvel is the last movie I saw also. It was okay. I'm not a fan of Brie Larson, so I wish someone else had played Captain Marvel, and I wasn't a fan of the best friend character. I read that CM was supposed to be the new face of the MCU. I hope not. There are so many great characters in the MCU especially with Disney acquiring Fox's Marvel characters.

In the comic books, the X-man Rogue gained the powers of flight and invulnerability by stealing CMs powers. That would be a great storyline and a plausible way of getting rid of Brie Larson.

Yes she was not a favourite actress of mine too. I first noticed her in Kong Island and felt that she was not very attractive for an actress. And she did conjure up many negative news prior to the film release. I am quite impartial to her but I am not sure if she should be the one to lead Avengers in future.

The Wandering Earth (2019). This is like the first major epic Sci Fi film coming out of China. The attention to details was quite amazing, from the vehicles to scenes in space, to planets. It is best to watch it on a big screen. Certain scenes took place so fast that I didn't know what had happened though. Storyline is quite standard. Overall it is an above average watch.

Wreck it Ralph (2012). I was initially bored but the film got better as I watched. Overall it is an above average watch.

Integrity (2019) A HK film about the fight against a corruption case. Inspired by an actual duty free cigarette smuggling cast. The film has a stellar case. But the plot is messy and could not make up its mind whether it wants to be a thriller or a melodrama. This is supposedly the first of a trilogy. And there is an ugly and scary attempt to use CGI to make two characters to look young in a flashback scene. It is a terrible watch.

The Wicker Man (1973). A UK film, highly disturbing and unsettling and yet, erotic. I now have a better appreciation of the wicker man in the game.

They shall not grow old (2018). A good documentary from UK on WWI. They took the old footages, smoothed it, cleaned it and coloured it. The documentary was presented in a way as if it was narrated by surviving soldiers. I believe they probably used old interviews transcripts for the narrations.

Burning Man? I just googled it and it seemed to be a very wholesome art festival. Wicker man is nothing like it

Fight Back to School (1991). A popular classic HK comedy thriller film by Stephen Chow. A cop needs to go undercover in a school. Already rewatched this many times.

Fight Back to School 2 (1992). In this sequel, action scenes are better than first one and there are now two pretty actresses instead of one. But this film seems to be less memorable as it took me a while to realise that it was a rewatch for me. There are some parody scenes of Terminator.

Fight Back to School 3 (1993). A HK comedy with parodies from Basic Instinct. Number of pretty actresses have increased to three. One of the actresses, Anita Mui, a famous Canto pop singer, has sadly passed away in 2003. I have rewatched this film a few times. A Stephen Chow classic film. Oddly a popular sidekick of Stephen Chow, Uncle Da , did not appear in this film.
