Still excavating

The events that featured them are long over but I am still digging up the Old Ruins and the Excavation Site. The Old Ruins are best: they generate a lot of XP with the occasional reward of a Flaming Torch for free. I return to the Excavation Site when I need more Rock Piles (with scorpion animation) for decorating around places like Shelbyville Bluffs or the ancient Egypt area. Yes, there are lots of junk rewards and I turn down the sound so Lisa’s exclamations don’t drive me mad, but I keep going back.

I hope this winter will bring back a way to generate ice tiles

  • Same as you, I'm always digging and getting torches, I have had 4 near enough after one another without a full quota of pickaxes, or just 1 torch with all 50 picks, now at 200, just gotta keep digging.
I wanted to do it yesterday but I will invariably do it tomorrow (ish).
  • I'm at 95 flaming torches from the old ruins. 3 torches is the most I have found with 50 pickaxes. Not the most item count friendly way of increasing your bonus multiplyer.

I don't have the excavation site. I could use more rock piles.
  • :) The Excavation Site is from that time machine event which gave us Hollis Hurlbut, the Springfield Historical Society, and dinosaurs among other things. The rock piles originally could be crafted (I think) in the Wild West event. I would like to get more of the other different rock shapes also
  • I still do occasionally, but I’m more interested in the fence and hieroglyph wall pieces.

True, but it's free, save your donuts.

  • I prefer fence pieces. Right now I need Gargoyle and Hieroglyph walls.

What annoys me is how I have a real abundance of Torches and I can't sell them or even delete them from my inventory. I also keep getting the Stone Castle Wall which would be great but my Stone Castle doesn't need to be any bigger. If we could even sell such items for one donut it would be worth it.

They really need more ways to get the different walls.

You know there's a special efficient way to get whatever you're digging for within 10 pickaxes. Start anywhere, and use the knight's move in chess until you get either treasure or nearby rocks.

Always do the knight move, though sometimes it's not less than 10 moves.
If the last tile, 10th, you uncover is a specific edge tile and it has a rock under it, the relic could be in 1 of 2 places.
On numerous occasions I have done those 10 tiles, and it is only on the last one I have an indication of where it may be.
That said, I have also lost count of how many times I have found the relic with the first pickaxe.

The torches add to your % bonus so all mine are out.
I know what you mean with the walls, before THOH finished I bought some of the Ruined Walls with IGC, not realising that they would be available through the Dig Site after the event finished.
I have over 300 in storage now, I would rather have that many of the Springfield Zoo Wall.
I imagine if we were able to sell walls we don't want, it would only be for IGC.

Digging pattern in this thread, always 10 or less:

  • I would disagree with that.

I do not dig the squares in that numbered order, WHY?
Because if I had always gone straight for No. 1 and followed the sequence, I would have missed the relic on numerous occasions.

I have had more luck starting 2,3,6,8, rather than 1,2,3,4. In fact I usually start with 2 and 3.
Most of my relics were on the right side of the site, not the left, I drew a grid and plotted their locations in numbered order, it looked messy but it was fairly accurate in identifying mostly used locations, which were on the right.
Though, I haven't plotted for some time and results may now be different.

On more than one occasion I have found rocks under No. 7 with my 10th pickaxe and the relic has been near to No. 1 or No. 5.
I have had similar results with other numbers where the predictions are a bit off.

I have lost count how many times I have found the relic within half as many moves, including finding it under or near numbers 6 or 8, or to the right of numbers 7 or 9, which I would not have found as quick if I used the pattern.
Also finding the relic in the same location 2 or 3 times in a row.

Also lost count finding it with my first pickaxe.
On one occasion I was down to the last two pickaxes, I found one relic under No. 2 then a 2nd under No. 3.
Last 2 pickaxes, 2 relics, I kid you not.
I wanted to do it yesterday but I will invariably do it tomorrow (ish).

For what it's worth, I use Ruined Walls to border my Transylvania area - which is pretty big. And for other purposes.

Also, start one step diagonally upwards of 1. One way or another, the knight's move is the most likely way to find an item rather than systematically digging space by space.
  • I always use the knight's move and the map positions as detailed above but not in the above order, as I found on my Dig Site at least anyway, there were certain areas that got relics under them more often than others.
But don't ask me what sort of order, I didn't get that far.

You may choose to dig in any order you wish, however there was a great deal of discussion when this mini game was released with various players coming together to produce the method above for efficiency. You can rotate the grid any way you want, but tapping 1,2 and 3 before any other blocks on the edge means that 15 blocks will be eliminated.
