What have I missed after 2.5 years?
I may back after what I am guessing is over 2.5 years. I quit when the "glitch" was happening all those years ago but have decided to try it again.
My main question is what if I missed? I understand I missed events and characters but what about features? It looks like it nothing new has really changed in terms of how events are ran. The same it always been all those years ago.

If you missed em.
God has a 24 Hr Task that rewards mega moolah while GGR (Golden Goose Realty) actually GENERATES LAND TOKENS!
So those are the main "features" you may have missed.
They affect the gameplay technically speaking even if the game hasn't seen a huge change...
The last couple years have gone by quickly and without anything very outstanding to mention...I may have to go back and look at every event from the point you left in order to give you a better rundown...
I haven't slept though so I'll probably take a nap first.... Various non-EA sites might also be useful if you want more in-depth information.
GGR was released 2019?
So it's not really a 2.5 year absence....
semantics sure, but that's the real game changer.
Unless you snagged it earlier this year when it was re-released....
With that in mind the question would be when you left!
Krustyland being added to Springfield was a big update....The Skyfinger Monument with the Tap All feature was also a game changer....
With GGR being the most recent thing I could think of, and you already having it....I'm scratching my head wondering what you missed and what you didn't in that time frame...
Best way would be to look through a wiki site and check event updates and such.
Just for your own information, the Glitch still hasn't been fixed and crops up from time to time, I returned to the game myself just before Halloween 2019 after an 18 month break as I got hit by the glitch and after 3 roll backs and it returning for the 4th time I walked away from the game, it appears that we both missed a couple of decent updates while we were away and now all updates follow the format (easier to complete but can become monotonous).

I think I had to reset to Thanksgiving 2018 or sooner which is why I believe it has been such a long time. I lost itchy and scratchy land and all the stuff around that time. I was able to get the Sky Finger and GGR.
the KrustyLand update was us forced to nuke it and put KrustyLand in Springfield, whether we wanted it or not.
Itchy & Scratchy Land was given instead, also to go in Springfield.
So now we have two theme parks, WHY?,
or like so many other people, you could merge the rides into one big theme park.
BUT,
The I&SL entrance gate was crap and boring, the 3 rides: Indy 500, The Log Ride and The Zoominator all caused really bad lag throughput the entire event, you could turn them off or break the route by moving a piece, but this was not guaranteed.
All my KL and I&SL rides are stored.
In 2018 there was also The Springfield Jobs Event, which was a competition between Monty Burns and Aristotle Amadopolis to see who could rob the most from 3 locations, one was Burns Casino.
But the store, Plunderer Pete's was inaccessible for Act's 2 and 3, so we could not craft anything from those two Act's as a result.
I can still play the animation for the first Act that has Homer jumping into the Cheese Lorry.
But it says Act's 2 and 3 expired, huh, they didn't even start.

I played itchy and scratchy land, but when I had to rollback to get my town back to normal due to the glitch, I lost it. The others sound familiar, but cannot be certain.
When I got my town back, I was able to get the Golden Goose Realty just barely when it was out. I remember having to go back to before Christmas on items and such after the rollback and decided to quit after that since I lost all the time I put into the game at that point.
