Oh my God, my wife and I were just talking about this the other day. Can someone PLEASE explain to me why they love this show so much??? My friend let me borrow 4 seasons of it and I'm almost done with Season 2. I just don't get it! I live in Albuq, NM, so I get the occasional "hey, I know where that place is", but that's the only up side to what I've seen... I'm determined to watch all 4 seasons just with the hopes I'll figure out what everyone is so enthralled by... but I can't believe it'd take more than 1 season to find the reason... :?
Such is life. I know throughout the years of many shows that people have loved that I thought absolutely sucked. I also feel the same way about some actors and comedians. Don't know if you watch Saturday Night Live or not. People loved Kristen Wiig and said she was the best female ever on SNL. I never saw it. I thought she was a complete one trick pony. Oh well, to each his own. I think if you're at season 2 with BB and still are not into it, it's probably not going to happen.
That, or he HAS NO SOUL.
Yeah. I like your explanation better.
Ouch guys... ouch...
Menace - never saw her on SNL, sorry. But that sounds like how I feel about Chris Farley... a lot of people loved him, but the stupid, fat-guy routine got old quick...
Back to B.B. - At least I'm giving it a shot and not just hating it for the sake of hating it... I would like to be into it... I just can't do it for some reason...
Oh well. Hope you guys enjoy the new season!
EDIT: Oh ya, and thanks for supporting the NM film industry! ha ha!
Should be interesting since the beginning of season 5 flashes forward with a much different Walter White. Will they keep hinting at that with each episode until we get to the last one? Wonder what Hank's going to do now that he has had that revelation. (Trying not to give spoilers.)
I already purchased 1/2 of season 5 on Netflix, I will be buying the rest of the season. 8)
I was wondering if Hank will choose to go the bad side. We'll see ...
I think the house is trashed cause Lydia sent people to intimidate him, and the ricin is for her. I think Pinkman will kill Walt. The scene between Walt and Hank was great.

I've watched first 2 or 3 seasons and my wife doesn't like it at all and for me there's been some good stuff in it but I would not say it was the best show in a long time

You aren't alone. The scripts are really not that great. I've watched every episode for one reason, and one reason only: Bryan Cranston. Through all of the increasingly stupid "twists," I've loved him and his delivery. But sometimes I want to fly to their writer's room and beat them all with a stick. Wait until you get to the "rotting foundation" and it's like someone in Analogy 101 wrote it. So awful.
Not really...
I never seen a single episode, is.it good?
It's the greatest show, barring walking dead and game of thrones. In other words, it is the greatest show if you're not into Sci-fi fantasy.
Can't hardly wait!
The Walking Dead isn't even close to Breaking Bad on any level. TWD is a fun show but the writing is atrocious compared to BrBa.
Is it good? We'll be talking about the impact of Breaking Bad on TV for decades to come. Anybody with zero interest in BrBa probably doesn't like TV or movies...not good ones anyway.

A one trick pony who earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. If that is all you see you are not looking deep enough.

Apples and oranges. I'm not going to bother debating with anybody, if they think Breaking Bad is better than Walking Dead. They are both the greatest shows, that I live for week-to-week. They are my first priorities every sunday night, and since they don't air at the same time, I don't have to think about what I'd watch first... But I would watch Walking Dead first. That's just my preference.

Or perhaps have different standards of what is good. Many people raved about cabin in the woods and that movie was absolute garbage.

It really isn't apples and oranges. BrBa doesn't make narrative mistakes and waste time spinning it's wheels in the mud like TWD is notorious for. So much in TWD S3 was a foot dragging exercise because the network demanded 16 episodes for a story that could have fit into 13 or less.
Remember the episode last season when Rick, Michonne and Carl found Morgan? Best episode since the pilot. A clear narrative with a purpose. *THAT* is the kind of show we should see every week. Andrea doing the dumbest things to propel the story forward? Makes no sense...her character is way smarter than that. We've seen it.
I get that people dig zombies. I love them too. Read every TWD comic...seen every episode. The show reeks of missed opportunities. It shows flashes of greatness then bogs itself down in stupid crap (the endless search for Sophie and the back half of season three.)
That is the objective problem with TWD. Shows like Mad Men, BrBa, Homeland to name a few rarely, if ever, suffer from this problem. The artificial need to stretch out a story over more episodes than needed for commercial reasons.

I don't buy it. If someone claims to really like good movies and TV but simultaneously says they have no interest in a current scripted TV show that garners massive critical and popular praise makes no sense at all. If they watched it and it didn't work for them...I get it but to say they have zero interest is disingenuous.
Cabin in the Woods was brilliant for how it turned the horror trope on it's head. What didn't you like about it?

Okay, but breaking bad doesn't have top class zombie makeup. And considering how many meth heads, they've shown, I would expect at least a few unsightly mouth sores. It's like they've never even seen a meth head before.
