You just described two of my three side towns. Started all three as feeder towns for the Halloween update. Then just kept playing them. I plan to do something with them someday. Oh, and the third side town is a massive White House Farm. Over 16k at my last count. My main town looks nice though.
I'd hazard a guess that most of the active folks on this forum have towns with a pretty reasonable layout. I had a couple of neighbors with chaotic towns like you describe, and I ditched them after a while. Those folks also tend to be the ones who never visit other towns either. Who needs 'em?!
Is the point of all the houses people have to get money faster? I am curious about that. 20 or 16k even does sound a bit ridiculous. But again, OCD. Thanks for sharing. I cant wait to see what Sony can do.

It was something new to do. I have four towns. Was gonna fill the whole map with white houses, but I still want to advance in the game and need the character and their buildings.

Yes, they are house farming to get more cash. However, it really isn't necessary, IMO. I have over $5M without any house farms. Even after paying for all the level 33 items, it didn't take more than 10 days to get back over $5M. I don't see the point of the house farming, but some people think it helps. To either his/her own, I guess.

Ya I do that in my main town as well, however, I have a large multiplier which I got with doughnuts.
Also, I miss typed above. I have 1600 wh not 16000 wh.
I don't have a very high bonus % so I used to house farm. I saved up, bought all the land and got a nice cushion, then put them away and have been decorating since. I think my town looks like an actual town, not done by a 2yr old anyway lol
Like many others I still have a house farm..... but it is shrinking as I can make enough cash without it now. However I still have a small brown house farm but it is more to ensure that neighbours always have something to tap after I have harvested all the buildings! I try to at least keep my town feasible with road access!
That said...... there are no rules. For some players the enjoyment comes from making a huge amount of money and keeping up with the latest updates all the time.... and I do not criticise anyone for playing the way they want
If it bothers you, get rid of them as neighbours.
Have a search through the last few pages of threads...... you will see incredible 3d work, and some of us like to create pictures using decorations! You will not believe the time and effort some put in to their towns!
I've taken a lot of time to make my Springfield "make sense"... a residential area, shopping area, public services area, etc. still waiting to put together my industrial area, rich neighborhood, and prison.
 people have messy towns?. My husband and my 3 sons have messy towns bugs the life out of me but ive remodeled them all once and its sooooo time consuming. One son is 5 so I will let him off lol, but the other 2 should know better!.
My husband said only woman have nice towns and men plonk things anywhere..........he has been corrected with pictures from this site.
My town is nice and all roads lead somewhere and I have flowers(my husband has no flowers) most of my houses have gardens. I'd live there but would need more shops and a money tree as there is no bank .
As said above a lot of the forum guys have awesome towns and are always creating new ideas. If you want to see my town there is links to my panorama and recent stuff in my signature. :-)

This is for you and the OP together: You see, some people didn't start this game when it was first released. We have to play catch up. In this case, it is FAR better to complete the quests and build buildings and unlock characters FIRST, as this will generate more money in the long term. AFTER a steady flow of money, THEN will we have to buy the land, and FINALLY will we be able to decorate.
Keep in mind that EA also adds content quite fast, so for those of us who didn't have fat wallets of in-game cash, that slows us down even more.
I have now soon played for four months, and I am very active. I have come to the part where I am trying to save up a bit of money for the next update, and at the same time, I am also trying to buy some of the land spots. This has taken a lot of time, and I want to have enough room to decorate. Therefore decoration is the last thing I will do.
I also want to add that I don't housefarm myself, but I understand why some do, as that can get them a bit faster through the steps I just outlined.
House farms are ugly without a shadow of a doubt, personally i dont like them, but i can see why early level people do them, "Get Rich Quick Scheme"
My town isnt a mess (or at least i dont think so lol) it has some of organisation :P I dont have these extravagant designs like some people (cant afford the architects) but it looks good i think :P
I can't stand house farmers. I'm rid of all the ones I had as I slowly replaced them with people on the forum. There are a few that do farm here and I am only keeping them if there town has something else to offer (Tiger is an example, no way I'm deleting him!). But my policy is if you level up to the current level and still look like a farm, your gone. Anyone that tries to send me a random friend request and by chance I do accept, if it's a farm, I delete immediately. Once I'm rid of a few current farms, never again do I plan to look at one. I also don't understand why people just drop houses and do nothing with them. Just doesn't make any sense to me.
I never farmed to level up. I do have some multiples of houses because if would never look like a city otherwise. I just always spread it out and I decorated pretty much from the beginning. Even my maze, once I moved it and made a forested area, now make sense.

Yeah. I am about to clean house tomorrow.
