The Whacking Day event is based off of a Simpsons episode. Halloween and WD are quite alike actually. Just replace ghosts with snakes and that was the update :-)

This is a pretty good summary. The mechanics are similar to how this Hallowe'en event works. Instead of tapping ghosts, you tapped snakes, and snakes gave you either snakes (like GOO) or eggs (like gremlins). You could tap 5 snakes in friends' towns, and place eggs in their towns that your friends would tap to release snakes in their own town.

The challenge was that there were only 5 snakes in each friends' town, so you literally had to hunt the entire town sometimes to find that bloody fifth snake. The prizes were harder to unlock, because it was difficult and time-consuming to amass 300-500 snakes a day.

don't forget about tapping and placing all those eggs in neighbors towns, that was exhausting, the gremlins auto place and there is a limit.
