Do game glitches cause you to stop buying or buying less donuts?

No. I guess I'm being too optimistic when I think my game will never crash. So if a premium item which I like is brought into the game, I just buy it.

I came close to stopping with the Halloween update... the crashes were almost unbearable. Crashed repeatedly every time I played. But my addiction overcame it. And, I figured that once the (too) ambitious Halloween event was over, things would go back to normal. Not quite, but it's better.

It's still buggy. I open game, make a couple moves. It crashes and goes to the server unavailable message. I "retry", it "synchronizes", then I can play. Then I try to go to Krustlyand. 9 out of 10 times, the game then crashes entirely, taking me back to my home screen. I reopen game, cautiously move over to the Krustyland bus, and am able to travel there. Once in a while it will crash after I get to Krustyland, but that's irregular. Then I wash, rinse, and repeat. I'm playing on an 5th gen iPod, running iOS7.

I'm truly hoping Xmas is not as complicated or buggy as Halloween. I suspect EA is a victim of its own success, and the crashes are just overloaded servers, not actual bugs. But who know....

I was buying for awhile and then I got the "glitch". I would say it is OK to spend pre purchased or earned donuts, I would not buy them via a golden ticket. I am not playing at all now and getting no response from EA other than we are aware of the problem and working to fix it. Fortunatly I have finished all of the Thanksgiving quests and am just loosing money.

When (or if) they fix this glitch I will not buy donuts for a bit.

Pretty much since I started playing, I've been of the opinion that I don't really want to spend a lot of money on pixels that I don't actually own. I knew very well that server problems could happen before there were widespread reports of them happening, and since my Springfield is just stored on a server, I haven't put more than $3 into the game. I would of course be upset if it all disappeared one day because I've put a lot of time in, but if I paid hundreds of dollars on top of that, I would scream until my vocal chords snapped.
I've actually been somewhat lucky in terms of being impacted by glitches. I haven't had the rollback problem, and no one else seems to have gotten into my account due to a file mixup (or whatever the problem is) and I haven't been locked out of my game for extended periods of time. Of course, I also never got the infinite possession glitch during Halloween, haven't found any trash that keeps coming back to be cleaned, and I have to be fastidious in syncing my game as often as possible to get multiple handshakes on my TV station, etc. So I guess it's a double-edged thing.

Lose. Lose it in a glitch. (I'm fearless... I buy the donuts)

I like your avatar and most of your posts, but must confess I miss the meaning of some of them.

    Edit: Thanks for the explanation!

The way I look at it, I pay for cable TV, which is, technically' "spending a lot of money on pixels I don't actually own." And cable TV pixels disappear really really really fast.

    Just sayin'. ;)

Yeeeah, but watching TV doesn't really entail ongoing interaction, unless you really like a show and want to watch it over and over. In that case, you can buy the show and own the disks forever, or you can pay reasonable amounts for Netflix, and watch a lot of things repeatedly. Cable boxes also include DVR, allowing you to record whatever you want to watch, and watch it repeatedly. In other words, you have the option for local storage. Tapped Out does not give us this option.
The most often made comparison is to other video games, and most of the ones I buy are on a disk or a cartridge; I'm not going to lose the game if some server goes down somewhere. (Also, most of those games cost a fraction of what it would cost to get all content in this game.)
(Obviously, I'm not an MMO player. I think those are as bad or worse.)
I don't expect everyone to agree with me or anything. But the proliferation of storage and server problems have only convinced me of what I was already thinking about the whole thing. I'll earn what donuts I can through playing, and I've spent a few dollars, but I'm not going to spend hundreds.

(Funny enough, I don't pay for cable. I watch shows on a network's website, use Netflix, and often go over to my significant other's house and we'll watch what he records. I could watch most of it online, but it's nice to watch with him.)

Not only do I agree with you regarding not spending money on pixels stored on a server, but you used my favorite word of the week, which means you've been promoted to k8rk8r's favorite poster. I know, you're thrilled.

Now that I'm back in the game thanks to the latest update I am scared to buy donut scratch cards because that's what locked me out of my game for two weeks. But I would like to collect donuts for new items...

Haven't bought any donuts for a while. The fact that strangers can trash your town makes me very nervous. In fact, I logg off every night in case that would make a difference.

Probably I'll break down with the Christmas update but so far I am saving some $
