I noticed this too and was a little annoyed trying to visit all my level 37 friends.
Feel free to add both DingoCrazy and AlexaRaye333, we're both level 16 and have a ton of brown houses/quick income buildings because we're just starting out and expanding slowly, so you won't have to go scrolling for a minute straight to find tappable buildings.
Maybe drop a present or two while you're there, we'll return the favor!
I've just tapped some handshakes that were just added, and I get no gift cards or Gift bags just generic cash and XP.... has anyone else got anything from their houses being tapped?
I have stopped tapping my own buildings, but if there is already a handshake on a building in my town should I tap it to reset the building? Or can multiple friends tap the same building?
I think that all of our towns were reset with the update. I've been to towns where I know they always have hundreds of things to tap and there is nothing to tap on.
I think it will work itself out and we should play the way we normally play while waiting for our buildings to cycle around.
Is a 10 brown house farm enough? LOL I just made one.
So far, i'm collecting handshakes and leaving $ signs on brown and possibly blue houses. Oh and cheap businesses and restaurants. I saved up to my first Mil just prior to the update (hit it this morning actually) and just spent $$ on land and the brown houses. I'm still planning on collecting higher dollar value payout buildings.
So I'd like to recall the brown house statement. You can tap a house that has already been visited by another neighbor, you can see the name of who tapped it before you.

the brown houses still don't hurt though. That way you're free to collect all of your other bldg's like normal and people will always have something to tap to collect gift cards. Since the new landing zone is wherever the gift tree is, I placed my mini farm close to the tree.
ROFL. So now instead of our landing zones filled with carefully clustered glitchables and arrows and desperate pleas to tap tiles, we fill 'me with brown houses. Boy oh boy, are we quick to adapt, or what? Darwin would be proud.
This is Hysterical.

I don't understand. When I got the update I set everyone on tasks and did one circuit through my town, and tapping on the buildings only seemed to get me the usual money and XP. I can't visit my friends' towns for about another 2 hours---have to wait out the 24 hour clock. Are you saying that when others tap my buildings they get gift cards or some other special xmas stuff?
Also, we can normally only do 3 taps per town; has the limit gone up for this event?

When visiting a friend:
1) on the top of their buildings instead of a $ you see a gift card.
2) You collect $15 and 10 gift cards per tap.
3) After 3 taps you collect your 25xp as usual.
4) In the upper right corner u'll see a gift bag button which will allow you to drop giftbags in your neighbours town if they have the update. (You are allowed to drop up to 5 gift bags)
5) Your neighbour will see a handshake above the buildings you tap and will only collect the money/xp like normal gameplay.
This is why it's important to leave giftbags, because otherwise your neighbours aren't getting giftcards from you visit.
Also because the only buildings you can tap are ones that are finished with their payout cycle, in many Sprinfields the only buildings available to tap are the Simpson's house, Kwik-E Mart, Brown House, etc. That's why it's recommended that you put Brown Houses up by the landing Black Christmas tree so that your neighbours will have something to tap easily without roaming your Springfield. It also will make it easier to find presents since they'll be likely to drop the giftbags on the Landing Screen if everything is there.
If you go to a neighbor and have nothing to tap, can't you just wait 45 seconds and jump on the Simpson house? And then repeat? Haven't tried it for this update but have done that in the past when there was nothing to tap.

The irony.

edit: typo, added last paragraph.
