How to make your crop "survive" the update (unconfirmed)

A friend of mine (irl) said his withered moonshine survived the update, as in it was still withered moonshine after he
updated.
As he only updated an hour ago and his crop seems to be alive (already harvested his town for tickets before he updated) when I visit his town, I'm pretty sure he's right.
