SOT:do people really...

Slightly off topic... Does anyone really cover their shrubs with canvas or whatever for the winter? Seen that in game last 2 winters, but never in real life.

If you don't want them to die, then yes. Here in Cali, people do it all the time when we get a cold spell (doesn't happen very often). Many plants can't take those types of temperatures.

I'm from Mississippi, and yes, when a heavy frost or snow is coming, some folks will cover their shrubs or flowers. I've lived in Michigan the past 4 years, and I don't see it very often up here.

Covering them helps to keep nasty snow from shoveling the driveway off the plants. Sheets over plants in fall or spring is for preventing early/late frost damage.

I grow bonsai trees and every winter I have to bury some of them and put a styrofoam container over them to protect them. Since I don't like styrofoam cuz of the damage to the environment, I usually use something recycled or an assortment of fallen tree branches.

    Edit: I'm from Wisconsin (USA)

I live in the US Midwest and we get some pretty decent snow and cold temperatures. I have only tarped my trees and bushes when they were young. I'll baby them for their first winter, but after that they have to tough it out like the rest of us.
