Windows 7 or Windows 8?

I'm in the market for a new laptop. Really don't want to spend more than $600 or so. I'm leaning more toward 7 because i"m afraid of how limited 8 might be. I know it will allow you to use it like a normal PC with a desktop and start menu like 7 and not have to use the tiles. But maybe I'm missing some grand point about 8? 7 just seams more versatile. Thoughts??

And no...apple is out of the question.
I'm way behind in the windows tech. But I'm sure with windows 8 you will have all that is overed with widows 8. And with abit of tinkering with the setting I'm sure you could have it so it's like 7 with the perks of 8 too.....but like I said I don't have them lol. I'm just going off the older generation

8 is terrible. Most recent update caused drivers not to work, making month old laptops useless. Office is clunky and less intuitive than before.
Tbh im looking to get a new laptop middle of next year. My plan is a MacBook running windows 7 and mac in parallel so I can still use windows while I master using a mac

I was hoping that 8 would be better than 7 but reading the thread doesn't give much hope.

I did hear that they are making office internet based and on a subscription instead of just buying it once.
Thats why I'm staying with office 2007 mac.

I do have a windows partition and i use bootcamp to swap back and forth but I really haven't done anything with it for almost a year. I have windows 7 on that partition.

I also prefer Vista, but if those are your only options... Linux :p

I Have both; You can go to desktop on Windows 8 and it functions like Windows 7. If you can not get a touch screen, Windows 8 will never seem right.

I have windows 8 and I hate it. I'm slowly getting used to it, but I would have preferred windows 7
