Just ignore the gifts. I don't opn them manually any more. I let the house elves do it. Sometimes I max out on gifts and the game gives me a warning which doesn't bother me.
To friends of kandycanada, I've cleared the wheel. I've gotten all the prizes and I now have over 60,000 GC. PLEASE go spend your gift bags on people who need them, either because the wheel still is a pain in the neck for them or if they don't have 30,000 GC yet.
For those who are friends with my other ID that I'm not going to name here because i'm not accepting friend requests for it, same deal. This one has a note. "Help Others" in the LZ. Cleared the wheel in that game and now I have 106,000 GC. Basically right now I'm scrambling to return Bags to friends who've been generous to me.
I encourage people who are in the same boat as me to put a note in their LZ as well.
To my friends: THANK YOU. Virtual hugs and virtual cookies to all!
What? More gift cards? I'll try, if you really want them but they're in short supply so...
Just don't let the elves out and your friends can't drop anymore gift bags. That is what I did
Folks, I never would have thought of doing something this simple!
(Sorry, my little elf houses.).
That makes your game lag, though.
Oh. Didn't think about that. Would that happen mainly because the gift boxes are animated and bounce around? Mine seems slow ever since the snow started falling. Heck, even those autumn leaves were a strain sometimes when it felt like things onscreen went soooooo slooowwww.
So maybe having forty bouncing little boxes could make it worse ...
NOTE TO OP: I had written "no bags" on my LZ last evening, but took it down immediately because I was afraid someone would interpret it as "help me! I have no bags!" and drop extras.

Heh, one of my other neighbors wrote out "no gift bags needed" and I totally dropped a few bags before I saw the "no" part of it
I think I'll start hoarding the gifts and arranging them in my park, around the 'holiday tree.' Or by Santa's workshop, which actually has a couple next to it already; I tried to arrange it so it looked like the reindeer was nibbling on a gift bag. Kind of wish I could hold on to a few as decorations.

Hey, that was me! Eventually, the "no" became covered with gift bags and my landing zone appeared to read as a request for more gift bags.
I thought of leaving the gift bags to accumulate, but since I have a number of neighbors with pretty low totals, I collect them so I have some to give out.
Thanks, Kandy. I stole your "Help Others" sign. No doubt "Others" will be covered and the message will appear to be a desperate cry for "Help."

Before my weeklong friend hiatus, I was having to try very hard not to give you gift bags, as I'd get in a rhythm of tapping through friends and just leaving one for everybody without really looking at names or LZ messages. One or two might have made it through to you despite my efforts.
Is anyone concerned that the overrun with presents message will be interested by some neighbors as a sign of an inactive town they will delete and replace?
I have put out a bunch of stop signs in my landing zone and am not collecting the bags. I open the boxes because I want to give bags out to those in need.
I just started this system today... So far ...we'll....still getting some bags
Yesterday I spelled out 'no bags' in flowers, then today I put stop signs around my LZ. I have gotten less gift bags. But I do like the idea of people putting candy canes or something as a sign so neighbors know if they need the gift bags. I deleted neighbors who hadn't tapped their bags (sorry former neighbors!!!) because I thought they were inactive.

That's a good point, and Soullessmama (great, scary name) seems to confirm that just such a thing will happen.
I made my sign out of brown fences against the snow and it seems to be visible. IDK how well it's working. I do seem to be getting less bags. But I think it's mostly people returning bags that I drop.
Someone in another thread made a badge. "No gift bags" it's in my siggy now.

I agree!! Strange to say it's brilliant, but it is. Simplicity often rules.
