I play on Android and just loaded my game without having to update.

If you haven't entered into your town with an updated device (your splash screen had no snow) then you can still get into your town and collect gift cards. You would just need to find an un-updated device.

You can downgrade the app of you have the APK file of the older version and install it. Though, if you loaded the updated app and went to your town then it's too late.

I have the APK file of the winter/Christmas update from my Nexus 7 if anyone needs it.
