Pretty self explanitory, Why cant there be a set amount of posts to earn the right to have an avatar?
Most forums that have reduced settings for newbies/level tiering/some sort of ranking system don't announce
the criteria as some will use it to spam to fulfil them. At least this way you have to "earn" them by being productive (or something like that... )
When I was promoted the message I received made it seem like it was because I have helped people on the forums (answered peoples questions)

Congratulations! Due to your continued contributions to the EA Community, you have been promoted! With this promotion, you will now be able to do the following things:
Utilize HTML and BB Code in your posts
Have a custom avatar and/or signature to show your style
I could be wrong, but that is how the message I got reads to me.
I think it works by posting at a certain time of month, and choosing an avatar. I've read threads that said if you post a lot around 22nd or 23rd of the month you get promoted. It seems to fit the time period of when my avatar kicked in and started working.

I think we all get that same message.... I could be wrong.
But I wasn't very helpful at that point so I am not sure about your theory.

Yes, it is pretty random, it seems, at first. As some of the other posters have mentioned, some get promoted after less than 20 posts. I was over 100 before I got promoted. And as the person above me said, it is basically tied to posting close to the actual promotion date. Of course, trying to be helpful, answering other people's questions in a sincere and thoughtful manner never hurts and is good for karma if nothing else
I do not know the forum members actual name, something like mesa joe 1234, he definitely has the word mesa, a name, and some numbers, in his member name, but I have noticed that his post count has always been higher than mine, and I believe he even joined before I did, but he still has not been promoted the last time I saw him post. I feel for him, although it may not actually make a difference as far as he is concerned.

I never ever got a message promoting me. Thats the strangest thing of all. For all I know I could have been able to have an avatar even before my 14th post.
I've noticed you post on here many times as well, loonytune, and I agree completely, that you should be able to add an avatar after 100 posts regardless. As for the spamming to get the requisite X number of posts a site may request, well that happens in some manner, regardless of what the actual parameters are, just so you can actually achieve the goal. It is the same as house farming, tile tapping, etc.
We are humans. I would even compare it to sales with incentives. The whole point is to motivate you to do something, to incite you into action. People will go about it many different ways and approaches, but the end result is the goal. If you make it there, you should be rewarded. There can and are different tiers to the rewards, but this, being able to post an avatar, is fairly basic, and should be rewarded accordingly. I do love promotion day, and seeing the new avatars people may come out with. As several others have said, it is so much easier to remember forum members with avatars as well. Just keep posting in the run up to promotion day and you should be good.

And you are probably 100% correct. I honestly have no idea.
I got promoted last month on the 22nd. I believe I was at around 50 posts or so. Even though I joined in 2012 I lurked for a year before my first post.

That's what in was told as well. And that the more frequent you post the faster you get promoted. I think I was at 80ish and got the message the 24th.
Not that I will be super upset if I don't get a promotion this month, but I posted a number of times last month around the "annointed" day (I did not know it was that day at the time, but I went back through my post log to see XD) and did not get a promotion, so I assume it is also was tied to post count or how many posts you actually make that day (as I had only joined a week or so prior and had not accumulated too many posts).
Personally, if "spamming" the forums on a given day, in the hopes of getting promoted, is what it actually takes, then I suppose I am a-okay with never getting promoted. I do not frequent the other sections of the forum, spending most of my time here in Game Discussion (which makes me wonder why this thread is even in here, come to think of it, since it isn't game related discussion, but anyhoo). I could leave a one-word/one-sentence comment in every thread created, just for the sake of "being active", I suppose. I know that many posters like to have mini-conversations in certain topics (posting images and back-and-forth banter that can often go off-topic or are simply "lol" replies) but me being me, I try to avoid that kind of behavior myself. I prefer to only try to leave a comment when I feel it might actually contribute constructively to the discussion.
That isn't to say that I never leave the one-liners, but for the most part, while I contribute as much as I deem worthwhile, that tends to mean I post infrequently, as compared to many others here.

I have no idea what the criteria is. :XD:
Does anyone know or want to share this information?
Thanks

Start answering questions.
I will start you out.
What season is The Simpsons currently on?
( I know... super lame question. I am trying to do my part!)
