Ive been wondering the same, would love to be able to use an avatar! but i dont seem to be a lucky one even though i do post quite often, will try doing it more the next few days to see if that works
Not that I will be super upset if I don't get a promotion this month, but I posted a number of times last month around the "annointed" day (I did not know it was that day at the time, but I went back through my post log to see XD) and did not get a promotion, so I assume it is also was tied to post count or how many posts you actually make that day (as I had only joined a week or so prior and had not accumulated too many posts).
Personally, if "spamming" the forums on a given day, in the hopes of getting promoted, is what it actually takes, then I suppose I am a-okay with never getting promoted. I do not frequent the other sections of the forum, spending most of my time here in Game Discussion (which makes me wonder why this thread is even in here, come to think of it, since it isn't game related discussion, but anyhoo). I could leave a one-word/one-sentence comment in every thread created, just for the sake of "being active", I suppose. I know that many posters like to have mini-conversations in certain topics (posting images and back-and-forth banter that can often go off-topic or are simply "lol" replies) but me being me, I try to avoid that kind of behavior myself. I prefer to only try to leave a comment when I feel it might actually contribute constructively to the discussion.
That isn't to say that I never leave the one-liners, but for the most part, while I contribute as much as I deem worthwhile, that tends to mean I post infrequently, as compared to many others here.
Sounds good to me.
The promotion is not just about posting, I believe it also somehow takes into account your join date, so if you only joined a week or so before promotion day, it may skip you until the following month.
Also, good point, I'll move this thread to Off-Topic in a minute.
Yet another reason these forums are so helpful. I didn't even realize I couldn't get an avatar if I had tried. I meant to, but never got around to it.
I think a lot of people don't post as often because of some of the negative behavior and rather rude responses given to new people. Makes it tough to have a higher post count. Then again you get folks that post useless stuff just for the sake of having higher numbers.
And it's hard to be helpful when you're so new to the forums. Or the game in general. It will be interesting to experiment with this!
There are many reasons why you wouldnt have an avatar as yet, main reasons are, promotion date is on the 22nd of each month, you have to be active on the forum around and slightly before this date 20th / 21st etc. This is the reason why some people have a low post count and been promoted as they posted a lot on those days. When i 1st joined i had over 200posts before i was promoted as i wasn't active in my 1st month. Now granted things may have changed a little due to the re-structure of the forum with all the sub-sections but as long as you stay active you should be promoted.
Promotion is only for an avatar all the other things like posting pics/videos etc are already active, in the mean time while you wait to be promoted you can put a pic in your signature

^This. I'm a long time lurker here and it seems the last couple of months have been especially nasty. I'm here to engage in fun, constructive discussion, not feel like I'm walking into a virtual firing squad every time I post. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I agree with both of these comments. I have certainly seen plenty of the short/rude responses, some deserved (same questions asked and answered multiple times), however, many are not. I've been getting away from the Game Discussion section and checking out Off-Topic threads - it's where all the "cool" kids have gone.
Additionally, I've only been lurking here since the end of October, but have also seen some references to the forum going through some kind of turmoil in September. Can someone explain what happened back then, or is this something best left in the past?

I think the negativity on the forum is closely related to holiday events. Events bring a ton of new people and personalities to the forum and everyone feels pressure to finish the limited time events as quickly as possible. When people feel they aren't getting their prizes (wheel of doom, Halloween's double-haunting debacle), tempers flare and bad behavior on both sides ensues. Once the event ends, things get much more chill and enjoyable around here.
I keep this forum open on my computer several hours per day, but originally I was only interested in the Game Discussion section. Far too much negativity there directed me towards other parts of the forum, like the Showcase section. I would have posted more in the Game Discussion section if the trolls could rest, lol.
I have been eager to have my avatar displayed ever since the game prompted me to visit this forum. Good luck to those who still want one!
When I was promoted the message I received made it seem like it was because I have helped people on the forums (answered peoples questions)
Message I received is below...
Congratulations! Due to your continued contributions to the EA Community, you have been promoted! With this promotion, you will now be able to do the following things:
Utilize HTML and BB Code in your posts
Have a custom avatar and/or signature to show your style
I could be wrong, but that is how the message I got reads to me.
I'm confused. Aren't promotions generated by some.. computer program or something? If mods personally promoted, I'd understand them giving out personalized messages but a computer wouldn't be able to tell if you with 16 posts was more helpful to the community vs. a spam poster with a hundred messages.
what they call PROMOTION DAY is the 22nd of each month. I would suggest being active on the forum the 20th and 21st for your best chance to get your much coveted avatar... myself I posted I don't need no stinking avatar several months ago and they let me have one outta pure spite. I only had 60 posts at the time.
Thanks to everybody for the helpful info. Special thanks to the moderators. It's easy to find helpful people on the forums but I'm amazed at how involved and active the moderators are. Hope to be showing off that avatar soon.

hmm season 5 no wait 6..
lol
me sir, surely a fellow down under fella would give another a break???
Bilbo: "...You will keep an eye on him (Frodo), won't you?"
Gandalf: "Two eyes as often as I can spare them."
That makes you even more suspicious
