This forum is a useful resource when used as such.

This is why I decided to come here, I've always watched this forum looking for tips, keeping track of updates etc, but since actually coming here and posting I've had a few people send me friend requests, and give me helpful and friendly advice.

Sorry, I know this post is a bit off topic to what the OP was talking about, but what you said there just made sense and deserved a reply :-)

I want to see Krusty's chimpanzee, Mr. Teeny.

Not a miscommunication. The OP openly admits "i aint gonna around looking at other lists"

Which takes me back to my original point that the thread gets made on a subject that is consistently spoken about on here purely because the OP cannot be bothered to use the search function on the forum and post in a relevant thread.
As a moderator I'd have expected you to actually clarify this and look to tidy up the forum instead of post your suggestion of a character to a topic already overloaded.
It just seems like a repetitive topic based forum. Oh well. Que sera.
If there was another active thread like this on the first page, then yeah I might have merged them. But I haven't seen a thread like this in at least a couple days. Its not my responsibility to tidy up threads just because they have been done before. Your expectations of me are a little high. This is a transient forum, and I would expect most regulars to be used to seeing similar threads once and a while, from new people.

That being said, the OP's sentence structure is not great, and needs better clarification, which it seems the OP is trying to do, and might be able to still, if given the chance. So I understand your frustration, but I still chalk it up to miscommunication.

I'm totally with you here, Hank Scorrpio, but it does not seem like the mods agree.

If I may be so blunt as to say my own opinion, I think what Bravewall defends and embraces ("repeated topics", I'd call them "Too often repeated topics"), is the sole most irritating thing in the Game Discussion part of the forum. The forum much improved when it got it's own off-topic section, now only the massively redundant threads needs to be adressed.

Though since I actually write in this thread, I should perhaps contribute so my response doesn't derail completely. I want Eleanor Abernathy/Crazy Cat Lady, Lunch Lady Doris, and since Valentine's Day is upcoming, I'd love some of the more obscure and less known characters that during the shows run has flirted with espescially Homer, Marge or Bart. This is in addition to many of the other characters already meantioned in this thread.

Write whatever you want about the game i dont care but dont go around judging other people if you dont know them(says in calm voice) but we do have our own opionons too u just out right called me lazy without any idea about me

When you brazenly admit you will not take the time to look at other threads on the forum.
Let me remind you in case you've forgotten:

crysterald: ' i aint gonna around looking at other lists '

Then yes, I will come to the conclusion that you can't be bothered to adhere to some general forum guidelines.
At no stage have I called you lazy as a person.
I actually don't even think you're in the wrong for posting the original post about characters, new users probably don't know that it a regular thread and just want to post on it. However you admitting you won't bother does irk me.
My issue is with the Modding of the thread. Rather than actually come in and merge it with another similar thread it's just left so the same threads appear time after time making the Game discussion a bit of a repetitive sub forum.

I'm totally with you here, Hank Scorrpio, but it does not seem like the mods agree.

Exactly my point, I guess I am used to mods in other forums who actually take the time to clean up the forum and ensure a varied discussion occurs.
Just maintaining the first page seems a bit strange as an approach and it'd make the forum much more entertaining if the Mods took the time to merge threads so people would have a direct source for everyone's opinions, rather than countless threads being the same topic.

Also, I am not going to talk about how I want Maggie included in the game because that might upset some people in this thread.

No problem with people's suggestions dude (dudette?!) In fact as I say above, I don't mind the initial new users posting these topics as they are coming to talk about the game. It's how the Mods don't merge it with a main thread.

Ok that's fine, we have just differed on what moderating a forum can be. I am basing mine on moderators in other forums. I understand you are a community volunteer and I appreciate your time on here as it is. Thank you.
I was just stating it seems odd to me to not merge it as one main thread that people can continuously use as a resource. It'd make the forum a better directory.

My wish for this forum is that the moderators actually read Hank Scorrpio's points in this thread, and thought about making that a guideline for the entire forum with sub-forums. I couldn't agree more in the points he is raising. Though I guess it all depends on how the moderators envision the site. The forum is already good as is, though it would be great if you implemented this change as well, although that would create a little bit more work over all for the mods.

The two most important points for merging threads more often, is the cleanliness of the forum AND as Hank Scorrpio mentions, all the discussion happens in the same thread. Instead of some people raising interesting points in one thread that dies, and another thread about the same stuff, just have the usual arguments.

For instance this forum would have been a lot better to visit during the Christmas event, if only all the threads about the wheel (or atleast most of them) got merged. The same goes for the all the discussion threads about re-releasing previous limited items in the game, and so on...

With this particular forum merging is tough, because a fraction of the time, whole threads just disappear without a trace during the process, and then I have to apologize to the disgruntled person who's thread disappeared for no good reason. The problem goes beyond me. All we can do is ask if it can be fixed again and again. I only risk it when there are more than one active threads, and not a lot of damage can be done if the problem happens.

But besides that, look, there are no other active threads like this right now. The main page is not swamped with wish list threads, so it is pretty easy to avoid if it annoys you that badly. There is no real reason to derail his thread further, just because you got off on the wrong foot with a new user.

There is a thread stickied like this though. In fact go in it http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/345/9509677.page
and the last several posts are all character suggestions.

I don't appreciate you stating as if it 'annoys me this badly' and 'derailing this thread' and 'got off on wrong foot'.
At what point have I indicated that?
My 1st post suggests the OP should look for a similar thread and in an attempt to help moderate the forum I suggest he adds to those threads so as to not clutter the forum.

I haven't derailed the thread at all, in fact the OP goes on to ask users to type about anything they want.
All I've done is highlight the lack of moderation.

How do whole threads disappear? The idea of merging a thread is to just either close the current thread with a link to the new thread, or remove the OP (if no significant posts were added) and add that to the 'main' thread.

    +1
You're exactly right about updates and holidays bringing a whole host of repeated threads.
Also, I checked and there is a distinct lack of forum guidelines, your suggestion would be good to add more parameters to it to ensure a tidier forum.

I have seen much debate around here about your title. I know that you want some new characters but a lot of them have been mentioned before. Here, I have included two links to posts I have created which I am more than happy for you to use the characters listed on them.

As I stated, whole threads disappear sometimes when moderators merge threads. It is problem with the way the forum is setup. Thats why we don't merge every similar thread together. Countless threads would be lost, and way too many contributors would be angry. I know its frustrating to see multiple threads of the same topic, but I'm not going to risk losing whole threads unless it needs to merged. Right now, this thread does not need to be merged.

As for what you don't appreciate about what I'm saying... I really don't know what else to tell you, that you will appreciate. You say your frustrated with this thread, but how dare I assume that you are annoyed by this thread? An argument happened between you and the OP, but how dare I state that you two got off on the wrong foot? This thread turned into a conversation about what the OP and I ought to be doing to keep the forum tidy, but how dare I say this thread got derailed?

As much as I love semantics, I don't care about this thread enough to continue this conversation anymore than I am obliged to. I'm not particularly interested in sharing my opinion on the matter of repeat threads. I'm pretty indifferent to it, and my abilities to do anything about it is limited. I only bothered to say anything at all, in an attempt to keep the peace.

I love when Homer says "Hey...you" when a new character is introduced/awarded but still chuckle when he says "Hey, it's Ned Flanders" instead.

When people are promoted to moderators who's only qualifications are that they post on the forums a lot, this is what you get. Sure it's a nice little title, but eventually people expect you to actually you know, moderate.
