I agree! And it is very possible that the other two could still occur. The Valentine's Day event only goes until the 25th. The Olympics end on the the 23rd (I doubt a big event would happen, but maybe a couple small side quests, perhaps, similar to the Duff Blimp?). Easter is still in the air, as that isn't until April 20th. We also still have *. Patrick's Day before that.
EA could really do whatever they want. If they really tried they could do all those events and then some but then it would be a big overload on the system that is already strained.
But it would have been nice to see an Olympics event solely because it happens every 2 years. Valentine's day is every year Olympics is not.
So the next chance they would have to do an Olympic event will be 2016. Start the counter!
Okay, just to squash this (sorry to be a downer), but the Olympics is not in the public domain. The Olympics, along with symbols such as the interlocking rings, are trademarks to which neither EA, Origin, Fox, or The Simpsons own licensing rights. The Super Bowl event was allowed because Fox owned the rights and was promoting the event on their channel. NBC is unlikely to allow Fox to get in on the action, nor would any of these companies be willing to shell out the cash required.

Sorry to be a downer but the rings ARE in the public domain. NBC only gets broadcasting rights. They don't own the Olympics.
The IOC sees this very differently than you do. "The Olympic rings are the exclusive property of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). They are a mark protected around the world and cannot be used without the IOC's prior written consent."
You can claim that it is public domain (and there are resources that agree with your claim), but the organizations that have been taken to court by the IOC and lost would probably beg to differ. Even if it could be argued, EA, Origin, and Fox are probably not interested in risking a legal battle over it.
And I didn't say that NBC owns the Olympics or Olympic trademarks, but they have licensed the use of those trademarks to market the broadcasts. The broadcast licensing deal is an exclusive one, meaning that Fox is not able to separately negotiate to obtain these rights as well.
The Russian dev team swears that the winter Olympic update is almost ready to roll out. None of the buildings will have indoor plumbing or finished sidewalks, but it will still be ready on time!
All they need to do is apply and they can get the Olympic rings. Not that hard, most likely they would have to make a donation to the IOC, which in my eyes is a good thing. (I don't know the whole details behind the application process)
But NBC has no say in Fox, EA, or Origin using the Rings in this game or anything else associated with said companies.
No way would they get permission to use the olympic rings, it cant be described as easy to get by a log shot as a lot of businesses in London found out in 2012!

After paying billions of dollars to acquire exclusive rights, you can bet NBC would defend those in court if another broadcaster tried to get in on that.
Even if you separate Fox (the broadcaster) out of this, the exclusive license for use of the Olympic trademarks in video games is owned by Sega (via International Sports Multimedia), which is why all of the Olympics based video games come from Sega (including the Mario vs. Sonic versions, in which they acquired a license from Nintendo to use Mario).
And as I said, regardless of the outcome of any legal proceedings, EA/Origin/etc. simply aren't interested in going down that path. Even if you win, it's expensive to try to defend yourself.
This game could go the route the Simpsons did on the TV show and use a not-quite-Olympics version, with a separate logo and no reference to the actual games, but the record clearly shows that the IOC aggressively defends trademarks in court.
My reason behind this thread was to express an interest in having an Olympic event in the game.
I wasn't planning on having a political debate. I understand that there are legal obstacles in the way of having the Olympics in the game.
To finish this debate off though, I just thought of this too as I was writing this, how was The Simpsons able to have an Olympics Episode for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics if NBC had the rights? I'm actually just curious lol (Not trying to open new doors for debate)

You can't make any money off of it. You can't use it to promote yourself or any business.
