I'm having the same problem, can barely gets to friends towns and if I do after I collect hearts and try to move to the next it crashes. I'm assuming a lot of people are having this problem as I'm barely getting any valentines and I have 100 neighbors most of which are very active and good neighbors.
I've always had stability problems with this (occassional random crashes) particularly when trying to visit friends (seemed to happen for some friends than others), but it really went downhill after the Valentine's Day update. Haven't been able to visit friends most of the time for several days, and the game often crashes randomly in my own Springfield.
The solution for me was to change my resolution. I'm using a Nook HD+ (rooted with a Carbon ROM, based on Cyanogenmod), default resolution 1920x1208, 240dpi.
The app I used to change the resolution is NOMone Resolution Changer ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nomone.resolution_changer ), a free app. Other resolution changer apps, free and paid, are available. Note that most devices need to be rooted in order for you to change the resotion.
The resolution I changed to is: 720 x 1208, 320dpi
Since then no problems, I've visited a couple of dozen friends.
Crashes when visiting neighbors. Sometimes I can visit 3 or 4 before it crashes. Seems to be getting worse. Haven't been able to visit most because it's so annoying. Using iPad 2 and have close to 100 neighbors.
I have submitted a ticket. Being unreasonably hopeful, I stored over 200 of my Squidport tiles. I could not even get to the friends list screen after that. I tried again sometime later and was able to visit 8 neighboreenos before the game crashed. I can't get in to any neighbor's towns.
To answer a Bren's question, I don't currently have a full friends list.
Now a side note to everyone else is a must. Please don't send a friend request ... sorry.
