I've also seen elsewhere that the pet store has no impact on consumerism, which is a shame because I think it's the next premium I want when I save up more donuts. Might have to get the try-n-save instead. (Or the Aztec Theater. Does that increase consumerism? I swear I've seen it with a cash register floating over it.)

Sorry, no, the Aztec pays out with a wad of notes floating over it. :(
    Well, boo.

It affected some other category before, but according to a recent post on TSTO topix, it has now been fixed so that it increases consumerism.
That is the best news I've heard all day!

It would be helpful if the build menu detailed the category for each item. It's not always easy to guess. Try'n'Save and SprawlMart are obvious for consumerism, the Museum of Natural History and Stu's Disco not so much. The Aztec Theatre's on my to buy list, but would move up a few places if I was sure it boosted consumerism.

I agree with neuroheart - some related decorations would be very welcome, especially for those of us low on donuts.

After building two semi-hidden Kwik e marts, my consumerism is at four stars. I have nearly 20 consumerism items in my town and still not even close to five stars. Consarnit, I want my shopping cart!

One small "building" they could change is giving the whacking day stalls (mugs, stick, and shirt) a consumerism rateing. They are stalls for crying out loud! With Whacking Day presumably coming up it would be perfect timeing. And since they are about the size of carts they could easily be hidden if people need an extra boost. This would solve all our problems.

Plus since I have a ton in storage I would be pleased as punch. 8)

Hm, not a bad idea. I'd like something more permanent, as well, but if they wanted to make event decorations boost consumerism that would at least be something.

That sounds like its a doer. I think, they must be able to do one small decoration, just one to affect the dreaded consumerism score :?

You are right, currently they are a decoration - but shouldn't be. Since they are stalls that SELL hats, shirts, and whacking sticks then they rightfully should be classified under consumerism. it's kind of like having a car that doesn't go on roads; wait a minute... Oh that's right, this is a game and it doesn't have to make sense. We were offered a grasshopper the size of some buildings. I don't know why I never bought that...

For those who don't know, the present depot, Santa's workshop, and Clausco all boost consumerism, even though they aren't "stores" and don't have the register icon over them. I've confirmed in my town that storing any of them made consumerism drop. (Elf house had no impact on it, I checked that one too.)
So I know the present depot is not most people's favorite thing, but don't keep it in storage if you're trying to boost consumerism.

I'm de-Christmassing the present depot in my own head, and looking on it as a piece of modern art. There used to be something a bit like it in Edinburgh, but it wasn't very popular

    I imagine it wasn't

I think it looks just fine by Clausco, so I don't mind having it out.

The tapped out wiki says the Aztec theater is a consumerism building. I might have to get it, if that's the case. Stu's disco is also mentioned, but it costs a lot more.

I have both and am still stuck 4.5 stars, so I'd be interested how that affects your rating. :D

I'm not sure you can get to 5 stars without multiple Kwik-e-marts. I was reading somewhere on the net (can't remember where) but it was saying that even if you had every premium and limited time item you would still need a couple Kwik-e-marts. I think it is true because I have almost every item and I am sitting at 4.5 stars.

And can someone post a pic where KM hides completely behind a building?

    That's likely. That's why I want a little decoration

Completely? No, none of my buildings are big enough. Here's the best I've gotten:

Here is a KEM hiding behind my Costington's

Looks like this (you don't see it).

But I have the same problem, all my rating are 5 stars, except fot the 4.5 consumerism! So I'd also like to hear if anyone figures it out. Good luck :-)

Hmmm. With the orientation of Costingtons to my mall, I couldn't get a full kem behind it. I ended up with this instead:

I suppose I could redesign, but I'm pretty happy with how it looks. (And one more shop is clearly not going to be sufficient, since storing a single thing drops me back to 3.5 stars.)

I have a five star rating and I only have one KEM. I did have two (one hidden behind my Costingtons) but I put the second one into storage and I kept the five stars.

So yes, it can be done with only one KEM.

Don't have a pic, but if you put two buildings together or building + decoration (e.g., two skyscrapers or the high school + duff blimp or parade balloon), you can hide it completely. I agree that it's challenging, though.
