Speaking of santa coins, what happens when the 24hr coin generation period is up for your houses? I logged in shortly after mine were done only to find no coins to collect and the counter reset to 24hrs. Do they expire? Did visiting neighbours claim them all? Or are they only for neighbours to collect (i.e. you can't harvest your own)?

Of course you can get the coins generated for your houses yourself. But only 5/24hrs, and only once for every kind of house. So if you have 5 brown houses, you only get 5 coins for the brown houses every day.
Your neighbours can collect 1 coin from every house that is decorated, and harvestable at the time of their visit. So, again if you have 5 brown houses, each of those houses can be harvested by your friends.

Ahh that explains it. I must have tapped one coin without noticing and the rest disappeared for that colour house. Thanks for the explanation

I guess it's worth getting many different types of decorated houses after all (plus they look cool)
