I sped up and bought that 100 doughnut egg thing... So here's some things I've noticed.

So, yeah, I spent wayyyy too many doughnuts already but I wanted to share some info.

First, I visited all 100 friends, the eggs you get from tapping on friends houses work like friends points, they decrease as you visit more people and max out after the 100th visit. If you are maxed out on friends points, like I am, you still earn random doughnuts and still have the higher payout per tap. I noticed a few things that don't have Eggs above them to tap, they were the metal Christmas tree thing, Graffiti and the Guinea Pig sanctuary.

I bought the big thing of eggs because I wanted to see how the new prize system works, I noticed that the gold eggs are a relatively common prize so it shouldn't be that hard to collect them, I also noticed that the fences are very common, but you get 3 per win (like the V-day ones)

Those are some early observations and I hope this info helps.

Fences... always with the fences...... I predict right now that I will get ALOT of fences...

I’ll repost the here because I think you missed a few things

    1) Blue eggs are common
    2) Pink eggs are not so rare

When you visit your neighbours at first the ratio one of each at every house (Note DO NOT CLEAN a neighbour’s graffiti as it doesn’t give you eggs) The three actions per town.

The Baskets for 10 donuts each (pink and blue) you can exchange eggs with your neighbours aka 100 blue eggs for 50 pink.

The Golden eggs are given only by the boxes that open by either blue or pink eggs (500 eggs and it’s like a the wheel system but without one)

When you get fences from the Golden box (2 of them and have only vanity value) a mystery silhouette tells comer that for every 50 fences (aka 25 times you get easter fences) you get 15 donuts

Last thing, eggs from your neighbours are like cash and FP just tap the buildings and move on you will not lose your eggs by not tapping them directly.

    Tasks

Homer has a 12 hour task for 25 blue eggs (Stealing eggs)
    then
Ned gets one of 16 hours for 30 blue eggs (Hunt Bunnies)

Moe 1d 08h 55 blue eggs (Hunt Bunnies with prejudice)

Is there any other task to get eggs or are there just 3
    btw. Thanks for the info

You also don't get any eggs from tapping your neighbor's farm.

In the beginning you get two eggs per tap: a pink one and a blue one.
After a time you get only one pink egg per tap.

I opened my first (pink) box and got - three fences. But it is early days and I hope for a better priize tomorrow.
You get golden eggs from the boxes: the pink box can give you 100 of them, the blue box has the chance to get 300 golden eggs.

I wonder if I should get the baskets. I do not really understand the purpose of them. Can I exchange eggs once I've gotten all the prizes in a box, or can only my neighbors do that?

I think so. If you have all prizes from a box, you can exchange eggs in neighbours towns. :)

Each quest is rewarded with 250 Blue Eggs.

But that would mean that I do not need to buy a basket - as long as I have neighbors who purchased them.
So what is my advantage in spending 20 donuts for the baskets?

By the way, you will get a basket by tapping a blue rabbit in your town. :)

How is Ned's task triggered? Do Ned and the others' egg collecting tasks just follow the completion of Homer's or are there other conditions?
