Many of the prizes have minimum box requirements (like Johnny Fiestas, Egg Council Guy, Blocko Store, Chirpy Boy & Bart Junior cannot be won before 12 boxes and Shary Bobbins cannot be won before 20 boxes).
There's a minimum? Can you point me to where I can find more details? Thanks in advance.
I'm doing the same thing. I don't have a dedicated egg buddy, but I drop my main color (pink) in every open pink basket I find. I place baskets in my town when they drop (only 4 so far) and hope I have friends doing the same thing. If I have to miss any prizes, I would prefer to skip my common color box. I bought one in the excitement to open my first box, but will not open more until I clear the other boxes of the prizes I like.
So what I plan to do is collect as many blue (my common egg) and pink eggs as possible, but I will not spend any of the pink eggs on boxes. Once I've collected 12 blue boxes I will then spend the pink eggs on boxes (to increase my odds of getting the bigger prizes with less.
i hadn't thought about that. So the minimum is for total boxes, not boxes of each color? That would be a big relief. I was trying to figure out how we would get 80 of each color.

I believe it is boxes total (at least I really hope so!)
Would someone tell me if my hypothesis is correct?
Me and my friend both are Blue players (or pink, doesnt matter, has to be the same).
We both start with 400 blue eggs, and 0 pink eggs.
We both drop those eggs into each other's blue baskets: We lose the blue eggs, but receive 200 pink eggs. We return to our towns to collect those baskets.
We still have our 400 blue eggs, but have gained 200 pink eggs.
Rinse and repeat.
The only variable in this theory is the extreme rarity of the baskets.
If we were of opposite colors, dropping our common eggs for the uncommon eggs would mean:
we start at 400 eggs of our color, none of the uncommon.
We end with none of our common color, but 600 of the uncommon: higher chance of golden eggs.
Again, this also depends on an unlimited supply of baskets.
One glitch in this. You cannot receive blue eggs if you have zero pink eggs. In order for your friend to drop the 400 blues to you, YOU must have a minimum of 200 pink eggs. This signifies your "willingness" to give up the 200 pinks for his 400 blues. Of course, in reality, EA does not deduct your pinks. They give your friend 200 pinks to provide the illusion to the donor that the thankful recipient is giving something in return.
This is a problem I encounter a lot -- someone will leave out a blue basket, but when I go to drop them blue eggs, I am unable because they do not have the symbolic number of pink eggs available.
Did that make any sense?

It makes sense. I personally haven't had that happen yet. My husband and I will be experimenting with all of this later with our towns (baskets permitting of course).
Any confirmed word on whether it's 80 boxes total or 80 of each color. That's what I don't get.

They aren't clear but I'm thinking it's 81 total since 81 of each is impossible without spending donuts and at 500 per spin

The hubby and I tested this... sort of.
We each had pink baskets. He had more than 100 blue eggs and I had only 30 or so blue eggs. We were able to exchange with no problems. Maybe it's only if the exchange color is exactly 0?
I'll be putting all my eggs in one basket, so to speak.
Your uncommon color eggs (for me it's pink) have a higher payout of golden eggs. I will be placing ALL of my common color eggs (blue) in my neighbor's baskets to collect more golden eggs. Once I've cleared a couple of the larger prizes from the golden boxes, the golden boxes will then give me eggs of whatever color (correct me if I'm wrong). Wash, rinse, repeat.
Almost broke my brain coming up with that one, but it's the only thing I can come up with since I don't want to waste any of my precious pink sprinklies on eggs for this event.
Thoughts?
Your logic seems flawless, but if your game is being as stupid as mine is, they won't give you any of the larger prizes of ANY color. Only good thing I've gotten so far is the winged rabbit. It cheeses me off to think EA is deliberately trying to make me spend my donuts on this event, and while I can't be sure my neighboreenos haven't spent their sprinklies, most of them seem to have at least one major prize. :?
I haven't had time to open any boxes yet today but in long run I think this will work. I can't change the game, but I can change the way I play it. The odds SEEM terrible but there has to be a way to play it that will give you a better chance at getting everything WITHOUT PINK SPRINKLIES.
My glass isn't half full or half empty. It's just there. I'll take what I'm given and do the best I can. If my best isn't enough, that's ok. My world will keep right on turning even if I don't get everything. Thats just how I see things.
All that aside, squashing and electrocuting bunnies for a whole month is priceless
The next great question is what color are the free baskets you are receiving?
All 7 of the baskets I've received in my three towns have been for the common color of that town. I'm not saying that ALL the baskets received will be for the common color. However, if MOST of the free baskets given out are for the common color of that town, it could point to this being a good strategy for this event.
I'm now adopting this swap common for uncommon strategy, not least because I want to reach the 12 box threshold for the top prizes of my uncommon colour. Otherwise I think it would be very late in the event for giving myself much of a chance of winning the Blocko Store. So far, though, I've had 3 fences as a result of swapping.
Can anybody clarify this business of the 80 box guarantee? I haven't seen a definitive answer to whether it's 80 of each colour, or 80 across the board.

Edited to add, thanks, mamalettejen!
There's no clear answer but I posted yesterday in this thread that I think it's 80 total because it'd be impossible to get 80 of each and they always make all the prizes for events possible to get within the # of days they make the events. Course they make it by chance 90% of the time

Sorry, drosax, I must have missed what you said already. 80 in total seems doable, but not 80 of each.
I seem to be getting both pink and blue eggs so I dunno.
Which colour box gives you 100 gold eggs as a prize? And which one gives you 300 gold eggs as a prize?
The colour that gives you only 100 gold eggs is the one you should start to get rid of.
A faster measurement might be which color the egg/bunny hunting tasks pay out.
An even faster measurements is the egg that is the furthest left on your egg tally is your common.
Your egg tally left to right is common colour, uncommon colour, gold.
Has no one actually pointed this out?

Yea I haven't been able to play but hopefully Wednesday I can. Also no worries it happens. The only stuff I actually want are the characters with tasks and the buildings

Remember, none of the "good" prizes are available until you've opened twenty boxes. So if you're swapping uncommon eggs or spending golden eggs before you've opened twenty of you common-color boxes, you're putting them to waste.

12 boxes for the "good" prizes in the common and uncommon boxes and it's only 20 boxes for Shary Bobbins
