I used to absolutely love the simpsons to the point where you could not get my attention if it was on screen! I still like to watch it from time to time but the new episodes don't really capture my attention much and the worst thing you can do is compromise a well loved characters voice. Ruins everything. On that note, Marge is sounding a lil odd too.
Maybe it's because I love the IFC show Portlandia with Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein (the cool couple on the show last night), but I really liked the episode. This is a switch because I generally am unimpressed with the last 10 seasons, I enjoy them, but I really enjoy the earlier seasons. I thought it was the perfect riff on the hipster subculture, this may actually be my favorite episode this season.
It certainly wasn't fantastic, but I didn't think it was that bad. I did notice that weird moment with Bart's voice though. I don't think I'd have enjoyed it quite as much if it wasn't for this game.

First new episode that I've actually watched in years. My wife even watched it with me, which was pretty surprising in and of itself.
Obviously not up to par with the classics of the early years, but I thought it was pretty good. I did laugh out loud (and then have to pause, rewind and explain for my wife) at the Disco Stu cameo
Maybe my appreciation of it comes from having 2 kids under 4 and knowing plenty of borderline hipster parents.
For me it's Homer, his voice isn't the same, and he doesn't deliver his lines with the same wit, it's slower and louder.
And where as before his character was careless with heart, who would wind up in situations he couldn't handle, but now he's just super ignorant and dumb, no substance whatsoever. It annoys me, the writers need to re-connect with his character more.....just sayin.
I was quite upset with it actually, I didnt laugh the entire time watching it, I think it might be the worst episode of this season for me...I think what really turned me off was how completely different Bart sounded when he got angry with T-Rex when he (T-Rex) was making fun of the gift that Homer made him for his birthday. Did anyone catch that? I had to do a double take cause it didnt sound like Bart at all...
wasn't it advertised as being last weeks episode according to the game too? but I actually did watch it. It was the first new episode ive seen in a very long time. And the Bart voice thing REALLY threw me off. I guess I'm just a sucker for the old stuff cause that's what I grew up with. but the episode was alright. the hipster stuff was pretty funny.
That's so strange! I must be weird (no surprise I suppose). I actually laughed out loud at a couple of the *-feeding lines from Marge!
*when confronted by a room full of mothers *-feeding*
"Oh, huh.... Maggie has already "milked me" today."
I did notice (along with everyone else watching in the room) that Bart's voice changed for that one line.
Our thought was that the original script must have changed from the recorded version and that the actor wasn't available to re-record in time.
Cheers,
JR
Edit: Oops... Sorry... Apparently one cannot say the "B" word here.... However I believe Homer referred to "Thunder Bags" in the episode... Something else that made us all crack up!
i thought the episode was actually amazing! not because of typical simpsons humor but the way the tackled the stereotypes. it was spot on! i go to portland a lot to visit friends and im pretty sure ive heard people say in real life most of what was in that episode. i also currently live in a city that is in the middle of a huge hipster revival so ive heard a lot the other side of the fence where people are feeling belittled and what not.
and yes, barts voice when he went off on t-rex threw me off. ive also noticed marges voice change a few times this season. also lunchlady doris isnt like she used to be either. i know the original voice actor has passed away but a couple times recently she has sounded a lot better than the most recent episodes with her (if that makes sense).
to be honest...i think the past two seasons has actually been better than the void we have come to know and despise. sure seasons 3-10(ish) were FANTASTIC but the past couple of years have been a huge improvement. i remember the very first episode and ill have their back until their last. viva la springfield!
I enjoyed the episode. Probably in part because I am a Portlander and can relate to the references such as Devil Doughnuts, "Keep Springfield Weird," food carts, and Blue Ribbon.
My wife laughed at Marge saying it even rains more in Springfield.

Good to know it wasn't my imagination
Ok, well not "good"...it's sad that new eps don't achieve the quality they once had.

And yes the change in Bart's voice was odd.

I loved how they changed all the businesses to hipster names.
