I don't like having a lot of money, takes the fun out of the game, if I can buy everything straight away. So I just buy the diamond and sell it straight away, to get the money down.
Gosh, how on earth have you managed to gather up such sums? I have about 21k at the moment and several unfinished tasks due to a shortage of cash (plus I maybe have a quarter of the land available). Granted, I haven't been playing for that long but earning money in this game seems like a rather difficult quest.
I have about 3.5 million level 40. Still working on land expansions so that's where my money goes right now. Play daily but hard to send characters on task with the lag.

at the start yes it's hard to make money but when you hit level 40 you have so many characters to send on tasks and buildings to collect money from that you earn way too much.. plus new buildings in updates don't cost much so there's nothing to do with the money.
i used to struggle but atm i'm sitting on 5 million and that's after buying all aspirationals and all but one row of land.
I'm level 40 plus several levels. Still struggling with money issues - don't have all the land yet, need to fix up Squirport and Krustyland (which I got to 5 stars but it needs work). I stopped buying so many donuts once I found someone else had been in my town and only buy as many as I need. So I don't have all the premium characters and buildings.Right now I have $419,000. I do store some items that are holiday - specific. I'm on too often throughout the day so it's not because I'm not tapping lol!
24.6 million, though I have not bought the big ticket items. I have all the land and started my town in October, 2012. At this point I can't tell you what I have been saving for.
I have also sold and repurchased the cubic zirconia 4 times which totals as a loss of 3.75 million (sell for 1.25 mill and buy back for 5 mill - reason is large amounts of XP)
I have almost 2 million. Level 40, playing since August of last year. I have nearly all the land, I have the escalator to nowhere, giant magnifying glass, Popsicle stick skyscraper, and sun sphere. Next purchase will be the zirconia, then finish buying the land. After that I'm sure I'll be grinding for XP (buying and selling weather stations, etc) in order to get donuts.
I have 22003 lol. I am level 38 but I don't have all the land or buildings. Actually, as far as quests go, I'm still a couple levels behind where I should be. I think I spend entirely too much time designing and decorating. :P

You can, basically.
You get 10 XP for every $100 you spend, and every time you hit a bonus level (300,000 XP, or whatever), you get the donut box.

Same here. I haven't been sending as many characters on tasks because of the lag.
