EA is hurting themselves by not offering all items

Prev13
Yeah, I agree. It blows that new players may not be able to catch-up. I've missed a few limited items, namely limited time show tie-in items, while being away and it's frustrating. For example, I would kill for a Mr. Sparkle billboard.

At least your idea of bring able to trade (with neighbors at least) is a pretty good idea.

Or consider that by only offering items for a limited time...this drives some folks into buying those items at higher prices due to the sense of urgency since the item may never be seen again

but yeah I would like to get some past items too

Making things limited time drives sales. It's a smart business model. Most of the event items also get rereleased. This also makes items more aspirational and each town more unique

As a day one tapper and completionist I must argue that you should have joined when the game was released. It was well advertised and discussed in the blogosphere. Keen day one tappers ALL knew this would be the best game in the history of the internet.

As somebody who didn't own a smart phone a year ago or read whatever "blogosphere" you're referring to, that's kind of not the point of the thread here.

That's a pretty silly thing to say.

LOL @ your best game ever comment. I'm a regular player since the summer of its release and I think the day-to-day playing is mundane, pretty boring even. I just liked The Simpsons, the dialogue and wisecracks, collecting and building. But in the end, its all very repetitive.

Tbh, knowing I can't be a completionist because I'm an android player, has relieved me. I can't have everything and that's totally fine. The Easter event GALVANIZED this mentality for me. Now I don't even feel obliged to try hard during events. I can go back to just playing a game.

    For the thousandth time

Trades will never be allowed because people will abuse this by creating feeder towns to dump all good stuff to their main town.

I am relatively new to the game, and I don't spend money on it. This is mostly because I can't get all of the items. I can't get previous holiday items. I can't get previous limited premium items. So why buy new stuff, when I can't get all of the stuff? I'm like a noncompletionist-completionist. Why go through the effort now, and spend the money, if I know I'll never "complete" the game?

I think EA is hurting themselves by not offering all items for a certain price, or making all items somehow earnable, or by not allowing trading between players.

I'm sure there are a lot of original players who have everything and buy everything every event. And they like having that status and that special feeling that they have things that other players don't. I'm sure they'd be pissed if their limited items were offered for sale- because then they'd no longer feel special. But how many original players are there compared to all the new and up and coming players who'd be more wiling to spend money on all those items? Or new players who'd play every day to earn those items, or tell their friends to play so they can trade for items?

Sure I'm playing for fun, and I got a bunch of donuts earned and free donuts from amazon deals, so I'll buy what I want, but there's really no incentive for me to buy all of the items now, if I can't have all of the items from before.

I was thinking of making a thread about this. I started buying donuts hoping EA would re release old stuff. But Im giving up, this game stopped being fun and is really frustrating right now

It's ludicrous but it's the common theme here among longtimers. It's a whole "if you are new don't bother having an opinion" mentality as someone who has "been around longer" will always try to shoot you down for daring to have a voice even if it's a valid one. Don't let it deter you.

You bring up a good point, and it has merit. But the flaw in the logic has been pointed out- it's good business to do it limited time only. That's why they rerelease characters for donuts that used to be free or bought for in-game cash. It's why they make certain desirable characters buyable for donuts but make less popular or hated characters available for in-game cash.

I have absolutely zero sympathy for you because by your own admission you have been playing since the summer of the original release. Therefore, you should have every limited time tie in item, such as the Mr. Sparkle Billboard. If you didn't log in and get that limited time update, that is on you.

Now in other instances, I can sympathize with the new players. Especially the Android only owners who didn't have the game available to them.

I started after Halloween 2012, so I don't have the Springfield Collider, the Black Hole, Mayan Homer, or the Mayan clock. I wish I had all of those items, but I don't expect to ever get them. But that is just the way it is, and this hasn't stopped me from buying other limited time items that have come out since then.

If you are really petty enough to not purchase anything unless you can have all of it, doesn't that say something about you, not the game?

LOL i'm not looking for sympathy. i'm not a completionist, more like an 80-percenter. some premium items i chose not to purchase, like the ugly Barney blimp. other items, i just chose to not play for a week or so b/c life happens. i'm bummed about it, but accept it. so i'm not a snob about it like some of the in-you-face completionist here are.

I do have a complaint of some sort on the Mr. Sparkle Billboard. Since it is (so far as I know) the only decoration that increases consumerism, then I really wish EA would have let us know this, somehow, so we would have been able to purchase multiple billboards to increase the toughest category to get 5 stars in.

Personally I think they'll never release limited time items all at once until this game is at its knees. By that point it'll be the last attempt at making whatever they can from this game before abandoning it. The question is when that's gonna happen. Then again if everyone made a big enough deal maybe they'll listen and rerelease limited time items for a limited time.
