I'm assuming that the monorail will be one of the aspiration purchases... 2 million to buy, and they'd give us a little strip, about the size of the escalator to nowhere. That way, it'd look really cool and it wouldn't impose on the rest of our springfields.
I voted yes
Give us the monorail station that can only be built on the end of town (far right)
Put Springfield Gorge in the game and have the monorail go over it like in the opening for Exit Through the Kwik-E-Mart
The other side of the gorge will be a whole new set of land.
Players who have most of their town full will only need a space for the monorail station. They can build the monorail tracks on the other side of the gorge.
Like with KrustyLand, taskless characters will automatically appear in whatever side of town you're on.
Unlike KrustyLand, all buildings, houses, etc can be moved to the other side of the gorge

I think it would cost a lot of in-game cash for sure being so many people keep asking for it What they could probably do is make it that you have to build the monorail in sections costing a certain amount of in game cash for each piece with building times etc.
The monorail being the size of the escalator to nowhere seems a bit small for my liking. If it is going to be an aspirational (and an expensive one at that), I would prefer it to be at least the size of the stadiums... somehow. Maybe it can be a prototype monorail/demo model.
However we would need a permanent task for every other character to chase Lanley.
i'd love it if it happened tho.
but then again I'd love an actual stable release from EA
Far from perfect, but a compromise nonetheless. That plain green stretch of background we have right now is awful. Why not give the illusion to extend it at least visually? And when they add more land, the fake edge picture just shifts over.
Biggest issue I could see is that we would need to place our monorail item in a specific spot in our town.
HOWEVER, this is the best monorail-related idea I've ever seen :
