How to defend town?

So I have this task where it tells me to get revenge on a town using that red diamond 20 something and I did but there's another task where it tells me to use it to defend my town I clicked on the top icon on the right for the diamond but nothing happens idk what to do I tapped it anywhere in my town but that didn't do anything any help suggestions?
