My professors spoke highly of Malwarebyes, and it's rated just as highly by PC Magazine...you might find something a little more specific on CNet or another tech site but I trust my professors and would recommend it.
In 9 days it will be "Black Friday" and several security software programs will be on sale for between $10-20(before and/or after rebate), if cost is an issue this might be the best time to get a program for cheap and have the built-in support from the subscription software programs...
I hate Norton. Really aggresive program that keeps popping up and slows your pc down. The guys 'n gals that work there need te learn how to code.
Never had an issue with Norton.
Might be the version you had is different. I had one of their total security versions and it was nothing but trouble to the point that I just got rid of it after four months...

Same here. I uninstalled it pretty quick. Kept a trace throughout my pc as well after uninstalling. Really bad program. Don't like McAfee neither.
Norton is ok, but has a bit more overhead than some, and is very hard to remove if you want to take it off. I've worked in tech support where that is a big issue. As money is kind-of an issue right now, free is the way to go. I've heard good about AVG and Bit Defender, so it's one of those, probably.
Malwarebytes is more for malware than antivirus, but is an OUTSTANDING program to have. I do scans with that all the time, and have had some great help when it comes to malware. I highly recommend scanning with that one every so often.

Viruses are malware as well, which is why it scans for viruses and Trojan horses and other garbage. Whatever you do, don't have that and an antivirus program running at the same time- it will cause conflicts causing neither to work right. This got stressed to us in class several times and the reasoning is simple: conflict = loopholes = viruses and other malware access the computer.

+1. Norton is a pain.
+3, I'd only get it if there was no alternative. Same goes with McAffee.
I liked Kasperski, it was slow to load when booting up but once it started it ran well.
+4
I used to use Norton but it made my computer load so slow, then moved to Kaspersky which I use now and it is better than Norton. Not sure on McAfee or the others.
I always use ESET ( Smart Security ). Imo the very best.
this is what I use too
great minds, elian
I might try that one. Bit Defender seems to be causing some issues for a game I play, pulling me out now and then and not letting me back for a little while....
