Having same issues not being able to play. Cannot connect on my tablet or phone, just keeps crashing and then get message cannot connect. Very frustrating indeed.
Here's my experience, and it may help with some theories as to the problem?
I have two towns; one I play exclusively on my Android tablet, the other exclusively on my Android 'phone.
My wife plays on her iPad air.
Well, last night, I was getting an immediate crash on load from both my towns. I noted my wife was getting into her town okay.
So this morning, after still getting crashes, I tried to load both towns on my wife's iPad - success! I cleared Homer's task, and got the elf collection going.
Next, I tried loading the towns on their respective Android devices - success again! So I was able to progress through the first couple of steps of Part 2 on those devices, and I thought all was good again.
Just now I tried again - and back to crashing again! What's the betting, if I tried using my wife's iPad again, I'd be okay?
So it's either:
- An issue loading Android saves on Android devices;
- An issue with the server both my devices use, but not the server my wife's iPad uses? Seems odd that a server would be tied to a particular device, not an account.
Haven't been able to connect all day on either my Galaxy Nexus phone (tried wiping the cache et al,) or my new Galaxy Tab with a fresh install. Last time I was able to get on was around 9pm last night. Oddly enough though my wife can get onto hers using her iPhone 5 and iPad mini.

I was fine until around one hour ago but now I can't get in. So I thought I'd move into xbox one - my wife bought me some excellent headphones for Christmas so I thought I'd try them out. And XBOX LIVE IS DOWN so I can't login to play online there either. Xbox were streaming The Interview today so I guess they might be being attacked.
Still Downton Abbey is on in an hour so time to relax with a bit of upper class tomfoolery.
I'm unable to connect as well. Haven't been able to connect on my iphone since last night. Got a new android tablet today and installed the app, it downloaded all the necessary updates, but it crashes every time I log in. My daughter hasn't been able to log into her Springfield on her Nook all day, either.
Same problem here US East Coast. I was able to get in between 09:30 and 10:00 ET. Just came back to it at 16:00 and my the game crashes about 10 seconds after I tap to continue. I installed on my wife's ipad 2, and the game crashes on it as well. I'm on iPad 4 with latest iOS patch.
First time ever having this big of an issiue its very up seting. My neices has hers going with no problumls at all. Was abke to get on 3 times. And missed my xmiss corn because all this they better make up for this b$%*@?%. My first time gave them 1 Star. And I dont hate my game
