I also might squeak into level 16. Not for lack of trying, either - I don't think I lost an elf due to timing - I got them ALL mwa ha ha. So yes - close to impossible to get to level 20 IMHO.
A level 20 cannon will be the first event item I have failed to get. I play more than the average player. I'm confused as to why EA made this so far out of reach. I've seen opinions about why, but that still doesn't make sense. Level 15 was difficult enough to reach for most. Seems like that would have been the end goal. I had the option to upgrade to level 17 (after reaching level 16) for over 1000 donuts.
Honestly, it's going straight to storage, so it's no big whoop, but I feel for the completionists on this one.
I'd say at this point, it's pretty much impossible for me to catch up for a level 20 cannon. Not only did I start playing the game a day or two after Christmas (because I had "just" remembered I could play the game on my iphone, after having it for roughly three months), but I had also just entered a new "no contract" plan with my family.
What does this have to do with the iphone, you might ask?
Well, I stupidly thought 16gb would be enough of an "upgrade" from the time I had an 8gb ipod touch several years back. But two weeks later, after installing new apps, snapping a bunch of photos and importing "loads" more music than I had originally on the ipod, I ran out of space. Knowing my dad, he'd freak out if I told him I needed more space, as it meant more money, not to mention I am a college student with no income, whose financial aid gave her less than the usual amount. So I said nothing, until a few days short of New Year's Eve, when I was in town. My mom wanted a smartphone, and joked about me lending her mine so she could "practice", being the least technologically advanced compared to the rest of my family. Which gave me an idea.
As you might be aware, prices drop for older models, and I had purchased my 5s just before the release of the 6. I figured she should get the iphone, as I'm already familiar with the os, so then I took the opportunity to "upgrade" the storage, technically paying the 32 gb for the same price as the 16gb months earlier. This way, I could help my mom with any troubles she might have. The problem is, the carrier no longer carried the 32gb in store and it would take 7 business days to ship. I would be at a convention in another city a couple of hours away for the next several days on the weekend, and after that, back to my college town to look for jobs. So I missed 5 more days.
And on top that, I had to wait hours to level up and earn money, and reluctantly spending money on donuts just to speed up the mainstream quests so I could finish event quests. Arrgh!
My only hope is to be able to get at LEAST elf Ralphie in the quest rewards, since is obvious I cannot get to level 20 cannon.
you can never get enugh space, ive been known to fill up one terrabyte in a month, and trust me it sucks being poor to not be able to afford a new hdd every month.

After getting screwed out of Shary Bobbins during the damnable Easter event, I am no longer a completionist. Even more so after the lamentable Clash of Clones misguided attempt at parody. I hit level 15 on the cannon and am tired of the Xmas event. Kind of sad considering the amount of time I've been playing this game. I'm getting far more enjoyment out of the Family Guy tappable game, which had a really rocky start, but has improved quite a bit since launch.
I'm just about level 16, but guess what, 'cannot connect to server' again. This has been the worst event for this, no wonder hardly anyone will reach level 20 on the cannon.
I was able to reach level 16 yesterday, but just can't see anyone earning the level 20 cannon without spending donuts. Has anyone contacted EA to see if it was possible or what they had to say about it?
With the huge number of active players of the game, I wonder if EA would be brave enough to tell us how many actually reached Level 20. Somehow I doubt it
There are two players on my friends list that have the level 20 cannon. Both players seem to be willing to spend donuts (based on the number of premium items in their towns). I'm fairly sure they donut purchased the cannon upgrades as both got the level 20 cannon fairly early on (in the first week or so of phase 2, iirc). I'm at around 2900 elves fired and about halfway between a level 15 & level 16. If I wasn't locked out on Christmas, I might have been able to reach level 16.

Same here thats what i managed to get too
I may still squeeze out 16....... But I'm thinking 15 is going to be my tops
Cannon level 16 as of this morning.
(35233 bells; I played the hell out of this event.)

My wife should kill me if i told her i spend 160 euro to have a gold canon
I stopped tapping cannons and caves to leave them for neighbors who didn't have the island!
I knew I could not reach level 20, but I would have gone for the silver if it was reachable. I'm half way thru level 15. When is the silver awarded?
Meh, whatever.
Also, did anyone here get the gold? Is there a screen shot among the previous three pages?
