Avatar woes. Can someone explain?

The easiest way to do this is find a picture 150x150 on the internet. Right click it , and copy url. Use this url in the avatar box, and it will show up.
If you want to use an own picture or photo. Crop and resize it in any paint program. Then you need to upload this picture to a hosting site (for example http://imgur.com/). Copy the link you will get after the upload. Use this in the avatar box.

If you're not all fancy and promoted you can put your potential avatar in your signature until you are. Fight the system!

I just used an old avatar I had stored on a picture hosting site. Copied the url, wrapped it with the img tags - to close if you've not used them before, and pasted it into the signature box.

Best to keep the pictures small though, don't want to stretch out the threads.

If you do this and it doesn't work then there may well be some option that you need to check or uncheck in your profile settings. Either that or the forum likes me.

It isn't the same thing. I realy like to be level two not because of the avatar, but because of the BB code

I looked at the link from your avatar, but that is not a picture. It's a google search page. You need the link for the picture, and only the picture.

Upload it to http://imgur.com/ . After the upload you will get links on the right side of the screen. Copy the BBCode link (it is already between tags), and paste that in your signature. Should be fine then.
