Do you have standards?

Prev1
I'll start. I usually keep around 30 neighbors so I can properly watch (spy) on their farm progress. I'm up to thirty instead of 20 because if coin farming but I like the neighbors I have.

No house farmers, but I've been more lax since the update and some of my neighbors threw up temporary farms for neighbors. Overall I like attractive Springfields I can get inspiration from. Id love to have some forum regulars on my list but I'm not cool enough. :P

I didn't have any TSTO friends for about a month. Then I added 25 and it ballooned to 100 quickly which caused my game to crash like crazy. I deleted them all and slowly added back in the ones I had really liked. I keep getting invites so it has quickly exploded back to 90. I don't like having that many because I feel guilty if I don't visit each one every day so after the holidays I will go back down.

Right now the plan is around 50 and I've identified 40 that I have to keep. These are people who are active on here or who have towns that I love. I actually plan on keeping a coupe of farmers because I like their towns. I also plan on keeping a couple of lower level players because they have done great things with their towns already and I'm excited for them.

So the driving force for me is interaction on here, I like having friends who are active on this forum and who I feel like I'm getting "to know". Second to that would be the aestetics of their towns.

For my primary town, I prefer neighbors who keep their vandalizable buildings accessible, neighbors I've "met" on this forum, and neighbors with whom my Springfield grew. For my secondary town, I like to have neighbors who appear to be having fun with their Springfields. You know, elements of humor, character farming, some design elements present, and the like. Inconsiderate neighbors I delete. For instance, those who have huge, empty spaces as the 1st encounter (on purpose) or have profane messages etched in foliage or shrubbery, etc. We can no longer learn who visits, but if someone hasn't logged on in a week (and there are no reports of server problems), I usually delete or consider deleting.

I first started out with just myself playing the game. I then started to get curious about the social aspect of the game. Since I'm the only one with an iDevice in my circle of friends I decided to see about adding random people. I went on the iTunes Store to read some reviews (bored one day) and noticed that a lot of people put add me at the end of the reviews. So I went on a friend adding spree. I've had 100 for a few months now. Then I found this forum. I have since become forum friends with most of the regulars (or at least hope I have). I have started to remove the strangers in lieu of people I know on here as friends.

I didn't have any friends for the first week or so until I found this forum and the 'add me' threads. Then I sent out about 160 invites within a few hours and ended up with 125 friends. A few weeks later I wanted to add a friend IRL so I removed 26 that either: hadn't played much/recently, weren't participating in the holiday themes, or regularly crashed when I would visit them. Otherwise, I don't care if any of my friends have house farms or if they appear to be in the middle of a redesign.

I had 90 friends to obtain all the coins. I have chopped them down to 30 and there are about 10 that have bought land so I am giving them until the big thaw to redesign or they will get the ax. :D Not really. There are a few that I not only have had from the beginning but they have pretty cool ideas and towns.

I have about 80 friends right now. Some have premium items, some don't. Some are newer players, some aren't. None of that is important to me. I had to * out some people that had massive brown house farms that caused me to crash. I don't mind farming, but I do mind crashing with a few exceptions. I have kept 4 that I tend to crash on when I go to their towns, but they are super creative so I keep them.

I haven't found I'm any more or less stable based on the number of friends I have, which sounds like I'm pretty lucky to have that be the case.

I have 100 friends that are daily players (actually I have one spot open for mdfriend, whom I'll be adding next time I login). It took a lot of culling to get to 100 daily players, but now I'm on an even harder mission. Ultimately, I'd like my list to be exclusively forum members, friends, and people that have awesome Springfields. I've begun deleting towns that I can't "learn from" because their town has been a mess for ages and clearly isn't going to be redecorated. I also plan to delete some people that aren't progressing at all. Lastly, and I kind of feel bad about this one, I'll probably be deleting some people with zero premium items. Not nice towns, there are some great towns that didn't cost a penny. I just mean the ones that are also crappy. I don't hate all farms, especially since they were great for Santa coin collecting. But some farms that are poorly constructed and make my game crash have been already deleted for the most part.
There are still a ton of regulars I need to add, as soon as I cull some more I'll start adding more of you guys!

I'm in a bit of a conundrum, because I'd rather not put my name on a "add me" list, because yes, I do have standards; but then again, how do you find other players who also have standards? I guess besides putting your name on one of those lists, and then just culling from there.

I have a relatively nice looking town, nothing too crazy (yet), but I'm pretty pleased with it.

My friends list is full right now because I joined the game late and wanted to finish the Christmas quests. I have been adding people with really nice towns and getting rid of the eyesores. Once the season is over I will continue the process of keeping only towns that I like. For the most, I take notes on the specific towns I like. So for example if they do something cool with their business area I keep tabs on that area for inspiration/ idea stealing purposes.

I like the cut of your jib sir. A very classy "add me" request, indeed!

Post. Get to know people and the "cool kids" will add you *wink* LOL

The premium thread is a good one, I found some awesome people on there. Go thru that list and add people, once they accept you if their town isn't what they "advertised" then delete them and find somebody else.

I wouldn't put my name on the generic add-me list. You'll get so many invites that you will mentally explode.

I first added people via YouTube. Just went to the most viewed video and added people from the comments section. I wanted the free donuts and the bloody task cleared from my task list!

Had around 50 friends from that. Mixed with a few friends from work who play the game. Then after an update I wasn't able to view my friends list. Deleted all but real life friends and was able to visit friends again but was down to around 7 friends.

Along came the Xmas update and the need for coins. Thats when i found this forum and I added my tag to the Christmas add me list when it was at aprox page 11(and is now at how many pages?!!). Had 100 friends in less than two days after that. That list was rather effective. I probably had over 200 requests over the last few weeks.

Then I posted a few rants here and had some forum members here react to that and request to add me. So I cleared out some people and made room for new forum folks who where curious about my town.

In a perfect world I would like to get my number of friends down. I just feel bad cutting people now as my entire list is very active in actually playing the game and most have an attractive Springfield.

I have no standards...just daddy issues and an addictive personality. My desperation clouds any judgment I might have about others' towns. When I'm removed from another's list I plunge into a chocolate Haagen Das downward spiral and rearrange my town to match that of my rejector.

I started playing with five friends from work in April or May. We decided early on that we wouldn’t add strangers because lemon trees could be stolen and we shared three lemon trees between the six of us. When someone had an expensive purchase (at the time the nuclear power plant seemed really expensive) that person got a lemon tree for a couple of days. We used to have a pretty good time with it, but interest for most has waned over time, especially since things were so unstable in the early days. At this point four of the original players no longer play regularly, two play intermittently, and I play obsessively.

I started spending more time reading the forum because I was really interested in seeing all the creative things people did with their towns. Even though I only have two friends with decorated houses at this point, I will finish the Christmas update tasks within the next hour, before I leave for New Year’s shenanigans. Well within the original goal set by the game, so I have to give game developers some kudos for their planning.

I’ve never really read add me threads – they feel a little bit like the Casual Encounters section of Craig’s List. I guess I am becoming more interested in the social aspect of the game, but really more from the creativity and evolution angle. I’m not really interested in farming, mining, and extraneous cash bonuses. No judgment to those who use these strategies, we all play a different way and that’s totally cool – it’s just not my jam. I’m a little afraid to add new people because I can’t stay logged on for more than a couple of minutes without crashing. However, I have considered taking on some friends who are new to the game since it would be really interesting to watch their towns evolve, but I have a really old Springfield and would love to see more of those as well.

For everyone in the Americas – have a safe and happy New Year’s. For those in other parts of the world, hope the recovery process is successful and as painless as possible.

    You are awesome.

I would never be able to cut you if we were to be friends. It would be too evil. My town is ginormous and very ornate. You would need like a week at least to recreate that sucka.

I have been slowly weeding out people that haven't played in over a week to make room for people I've talked on here.
