Real world inspirations

It may be strange, but i've started redesigning my Springfield based on my city. We have an entertainment district, so I've tried to build aspects of that in my SF (Aztec, Bowl-a-rama, etc). I am also a very logical person, so my city has to make sense (little OCD I guess) - street designs, parking lots, building placement, etc.

I also love what some other users have done - I have tried to take their designs and build on them (I don't like copying - prefer to add my own touch to it).

I have done small things that mimic real life in the game. e.g. kwik-e-mart getting a trash bin, nuclear plant getting a fenced in parking lot, prison with barded wire fence. It all seemed natural to do it that way.

I'm not normally mean or rude but this is getting really old! There are HUGE add me threads on the first page. Why can't you post your name in there and add some people from that thread? Are you that damn lazy?

Edit*. I'm sorry Chibihalo for the thread derailment.

In regard to the real world being an inspiration, I definitely follow that... Not being a farmer, I do have a brown house trailer park of sorts with the Muntz house & Cletus' shack, which is near my industrial district, which includes the Tire Yard, Power Plant, Frinks Lab, Super Collider, etc. I've also set up a gated community of white houses with a community pool & volley ball. Pretty much, everything flows, the way you'd expect in a typical city, have a downtown of sorts, several residential districts, health care area & an entertainment district... My two tier 3D hedge platform is awaiting Burns Manor, complete with a shrub "B", although I'm suspecting I'm going to have to resize.

I tried to make everything uniform. For the most part, my house blocks are the same size, the houses were equally spread apart, fences started/ended at same spot, etc.

I used a lot of parking lots for the bigger businesses (bowling alley, hospital, etc.) to mark real life, but pulled all of those because I was freezing too much. Hopefully I can put them back out at some point.

You don't need neighbors in order to change your city. Just change it to what makes you happy. I'm not making any of the changes to my town because of the neighbors I have. I'm doing them because it's how I want my Springfield to be and I like how things look.

Like some day when I really have the time to do things and can really shake up the eastern parts of my town a bit I'm going to turn the Supercollider into Springfield's answer to the Fermilab. It's going to be epic.

In fact the building they gave us looks a lot like Wilson Hall.

And as you can see, when done right with a road that has reflecting pools and some major tree action having that in Springfield will be awesome. It'll be my huge project for my town that should help my town be something unique.

Yeah, sometimes it loves to disable the BB Code on me and I don't really notice until after I hit the Submit button. It happens more on my iPad than the computer though. Though how cool would it be to attempt something like I referenced there? Wouldn't use far too much land to attempt it though because I don't want to end up crashing my town with too many trees.

I have tried to make my SF as logical as possible, i have a modest sized housing estate, a shopping street a resterant street. all down the left side i have the power plant, super collider, the prison and and hospital all on there own islands, i have made my SF a little homage to Venice with the obvious alcatriz insperation. i am expecting my first born soon and have proudly spelled his name in hedges on his own island now compleat with reindeer herd. i have recently added a race track for the duff race car with a theme park ish inspired area on it with the bowlarama and springfield downs.

on a side note has anyone oticed ay copy cats?? i know that copying is the best flattery and do not wish to name and shame but one of my neighbours has copyed my exact layout namly amylee4991

I haven't noticed anyone copying anything I've done with my town but I think that's mostly because I haven't done anything significant. And my plans to take inspiration from Fermilab with the collider is something that I wouldn't be upset if anyone else attempted to do the same.

Wasn't certain with how your post was worded. Sorry to make it seem like you were.

I try to put the garbage cans out on Tuesday night since Wednesday is garbage day in my area. Unfortunately, I usually forget in real life until the last minute...I think my Springfield has had two actual garbage nights. My hometown had hills/bluffs/bottoms, so I'm trying to incorporate that in my redesign. No garbage night tonight due to redesign!

I’m really interested in the philosophical debate regarding the structure and use of urban space so I’m always looking to see how spaces are used (and not used) in my own (real life) city. So my Springfield does reflect many of those observations. I think it’s also part of the reason I like this game.

I like to lay down roads and water and force myself to build around them. This means that some blocks are uniformed and some are not – and there is generally a mix of residential and commercial properties. Oftentimes when a building is torn down in the real world, the block is not rearranged to accommodate new buildings.

That being said – I have started to play around with more “fantasy” or comical elements. I always love looking at the pictures people post that show buildings and characters in absurd surrounds. So I’m making some changes. I don’t want my town to be so serious. I need to find a way to work the Volcano Lair into an existing residential block.

I don't have very many water elements in my town. It's a pretty dry town. Maybe that's why I have this desire to redesign my Supercollider to be a bit more like the Fermilab. There's some pretty darn good water elements on that compound.
