Design problem about Fancy Gate & Fence
I've found a similar problem with the Easter fences and gates from a couple years ago. I had to do just what you did. I was just placing the wrought iron fence today and it has no such issue so I'm not sure why these others have such a design flaw.

I realize this isn't what you were asking for, but one solution would be to nudge both the fence and the gate away from the road a notch. (So the empty gap of "grass" between the fence and the road would be the same all around the corner. ) It would mean that you could put some small one-square-sized shrubs on the outside of the fence, since the invisible 'footing' of the fence would be rotated "inward" ... and of course, no shrubs outside the gate, because a yard wouldn't have shrubs in a gateway opening anyway.
(I tried it with and without that one little corner shrub ... not sure ... but ...
I know it means wasting land, but it's an option.
Sometimes the solution you need is not the one that you want to hear.
Back in the '80s our auto mechanic said that. A lot.
It's unsafe to have a driveway that close to a corner. SF DoT forbids it. You'll have to move the driveway back at least one fence section.
Keep calm and tap on!
How can it be unsafe if theres never any cars driving around in SF? lol
I just use pavement and do what I can to make them look like roads (including being able to place a car on it!!!!)
