Sorry if this sounds rude but what exactly is exhausting about it? I'm currently doing my first KEM farm, I'm four days into a ten day multiplier. I'm only doing 3/4 rounds of 50 KEMs a day though so maybe that's the difference. Sure it's annoying the way the chain placement is awkward but other than that (and possibly the cost) it's not that much bother.
1. What is KEM farming? I've read multiple threads and none seem to explain it. Is it just buying KEMs for their XP?

KEM farming is the buying and selling of Kwik-E-Marts in order to gain vast amounts of XP so donuts can easily be received through leveling up/bonus rounds.
Ok. I've been doing that for awhile I guess without knowing it. I buy maybe 20 and then sell. Do that a few times a day.
How many do you normally buy/sell at a time?
I do 50 a go, but others have figures of around 200 perhaps more, it really depends on how much money,land, and time you have. The smaller your buying figure is the better you money to XP ratio is, it just takes longer to get donuts, it's all personal preference I think.
