We have a Keurig machine in our office, I drink a minimum of 1 cup a day from this device, is that considered instant coffee?

Anything that comes from a machine is better than instant coffee! Instant is like a jar where you mix a teaspoon of granules with boiling water, apparently it's hideous! As a non coffee drinker I'm oblivious 8)

It takes like 3 minutes to brew coffee. What is the point of instant coffee? You still need boiling water right?

No, you may be describing a French press, actually. And the water should be hot, but not boiling.
    FYI.

It probably has more to do with the fact we're a nation of tea drinkers so there's not much demand for high quality coffee. But in recent years there's definitely been a shift in taste. I want a coffee machine :-o

In the UK, we put crappy granules from a jar in a mug, add water, then milk. That is all. No French press, nothing. Just cheap, nasty, bad coffee

French press coffee for me here in the U.S. although I've had instant coffee before when I lived in the Philippines.

Interestingly enough, countries that export coffee usually have terrible coffee when you are actually visiting said countries.
Ecuador and Colombia are good examples. Nescaf? is all the rage over there.

Over here everyone has a coffee machine.

This is lies. When I asked you for a coffee, you served me Jenever

@johncolumbo do you have many coffee "emergencys"? that sounds like you have a problem! :P

LOL, thanks for making me laugh. I actually only drink one cup of coffee a day but I used to drink more, it's just a staple in my home. I like a cup when I wake up. Then the were the dark days when I drank a lot more of it and kept accidently putting sambuca in it.

Indeed. It's just much more practical to make instant coffee over there.

I actually had pretty decent instant coffee somewhere, though now I'm not sure where I was. Japan, possibly.

But yes, in America instant is only for places you can't bring a machine, like camping.

Or the y2k bug, I bought some instant back then thinking I could build a fire in the yard and make coffee. Fortunately that never happened.

    FYI.

A French Press is where you put the coffee grounds in the jar, add hot water and let it brew for a couple minutes before pressing the grounds down and pouring off the coffee. Gives a stronger brew because the coffee actually sits in the water for a while. Many people swear by this brewing method. Others prefer percolators, where the hot water is basically forced to run over the grounds and drip down repeatedly for several minutes. Others like the automatic drip machines, where the hot water is run over the grounds a single time. Finally, there's the single serve machines that are very convenient if you don't want to brew a full pot every time. All of these are generally considered brewed coffee, not instant.

Instant coffee is basically coffee-flavoured drink crystals. I think technically it's freeze-dried coffee, but pretty much an act of desperation no matter how you describe it.

Coffee is so gross no matter how it is made.

I don't understand how so many people like the taste of dirt.
