The grossest thing I ever ate, was the entire meal at a Vietnamese friend's wedding. The only thing I could identify was the octopus tenticals (I'm not a fan of sea food).
This thread had made me nauseated and laugh so hard I almost peed my pants.
I'm not sure what the German's have with canning food, on TV last week I saw that they can apple Strudel. Why????
Nasty!
In Fargo they have this German bar that serves sausage (which is good) but they offer rotting, fermented cabbage on the side. Gross!
That's just sauerkraut it's not gross as far as I've heard from those who have tried it! I even saw a hot dog place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives that served it on one of their most popular hotdogs, and that was in the US!
Annoyingly when I was in Berlin they didn't serve any with my wurst but I was hoping they would so I could try it!
@Anna I think you've won so far with that picture
Sauerkraut is really good. I'll make you guys a Sauerkraut stamppot on your next visit.
Used to help my grandmother, who was German, make homemade sauerkraut. Excellent stuff! Brats without sauerkraut aint really brats.
Sauerkraut is great! I've always liked it, which my mom thinks is disgusting.
Strange though, your description of sauerkraut sounds like how my father described kimchi, yet he thinks kimchi is disgusting without having ever tried it (he loved sauerkraut too). He always tried to teach us kimchi is disgusting but I've heard from people who have eaten it that it is quite good. I just need to find a good Korean restaurant in my area.

I thought the same thing about his description sounding more like kimchi - and now that's a big fad everywhere apparently! No Korean restaurants near me though so I can't comment on if it's good
Sorry mox - sounds like you're in the minority with your disgust at sauerkraut

Ya Moxie, next time smother that brat with sauerkraut, add some spicy southwestern mustard and let us know how it goes
DeesToonTown in Crawl to the Finish #The Grumple Is Free!
The most disgusting food I have ever eaten looked something like this:
Looks okay, right? It's called Hongeo, I ate it in Korea and my Korean friend was giggling all the time when she ordered it for me. (She's awesome but has some evil tendencies..) Hongeo smells like a public bathroom at Grand Central Station where the toiletlady has been on strike for the past four years and travelers have used the bathrooms anyway, but stopped caring wether they do their business inside the toiletbowl.
It tastes even worse. Like a rotting dinosaur pissed in your mouth and the texture feels like that what the rotting dinosaur used to pee with.
When I put it in my mouth, a restaurant full of giggling Koreans stared at me, cause they knew the ignorant, blonde and weirdly tall Dutch girl would either start crying or vomit. I did both. They applauded. I bloody ate half my plate of that stuff (I'm a bit stubborn) and felt totally stoned (I guess that's why they like it). I prefer our lovely Dutch coffeshops if I want to get stoned.
I love Korea, love the food but will never ever ever ever go to a restaurant that serves that again. Ever!

Kimchi is good. It is sort of like spicy sauerkraut and easier to spell! I have seen it sold in jars at grocery stores.

There are a million recepies, because every Korean mom makes it differently, but well made Kimchi is delicious!

Wow. I had no idea people liked rotting veggies!
I know - what next? Cheese with mould on it?!
Ohhh I forgot! You guys don't like real cheese over there

I can't stand sauerkraut either. Although I haven't had since I was a child, so my taste may have changed. I just can't get myself to try it again.

(I don't actually like blue cheese myself lol!)
Velveeta rocks.
(Haters gonna hate)
From what I just read that sounds like it would only be acceptable in a burger (and not a canned one!)

Though I am starting to eat things with this fungus on them...in very small quantities. Same with black olives and onions.
