The latest list of 25 titles to enter the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress was disclosed last week. Among the works selected was the 1980 Talking Heads album, Remain in Light. Here from that album is “Once in a Lifetime”.
Paint it Black is playing in my brain now. I think because I just viewed a trailer that uses it. I think it is The Mummy. This song is so overused, used by the Nam tv series, Westworld for example.
I’ve been listening to Winter Morning Walks, a suite composed by Maria Schneider and performed by soprano Dawn Upshaw with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. It’s taken from the album of the same name which was released in 2013. I was gonna post a clip of my favorite movement from the suite, “Walking by Flashlight”, but the album hasn’t been digitized yet in spite of the fact that it won three Grammys.
Brook Benton singing “Rainy Night in Georgia” from his 1969 album Brook Benton Today. The song was written in 1967 by Tony Joe White. Benton’s version of the song is by far the best known, although it’s been covered numerous times. In the U.S., the Benton version reached Number 1 on the Billboard Soul Singles chart, Number 4 on the Hot 100, and Number 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
