Pixies, Radiohead, Pavement, Nirvana, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Weezer, Nick Drake, The Smiths, Bjork, Oasis, Animal Collective, Nada Surf, Third Eye Blind, Blur, The Flaming Lips, Wilco, Daft Punk, My Bloody Valentine
That's a good list. Btw Bjork's newer stuff has been blowing my mind.
I just picked up her first four proper releases (among some 50 other albums) last week and I've been listening to hers constantly. I used to subscribe to the "Bjork is weird, but I've never listened to her" bandwagon. What a shame! This is beautiful music!
I'll have to check her newer albums out as soon as I'm done sifting through all of this new music.
Do it! She has an app with games for each song. Check out this song (mutual core) the vid is crazy!
I second the praise for "indie music" (although it seems a bit ingenuous calling it that considering most of these bands are on labels) but I'm into a lt of those bands you mentioned. Brights Eyes/Conor Oberst is awesome, brings me back to a certain time in my life along with Elliot Smith, The Postal Service and Nick Drake.
These days I've been listening to a lot of The Beta Band, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and Justice.
I like music to dance to, to chill out to, and I'm into Motown (my husband is a big fan). My top 3 fav bands (if I had to pick) would be Sigur Ros, The Books, and The Beatles.
Also: I second that Das Racist is hilarious.
Anyone else on here collect vinyl?
Have you listened to Tricky Pixie? Filk that covers the spectrum. And the members all have good stuff in filk, folk, and Celtic Rock. Including Heather Alexander's stuff.
Not really a collection; but I've got some vinyl of an eclectic bent. From Kingsmen Trio Dark Side & Hotel California.
Well, we did favorite movie and favorite TV show so I figure why not favorite music group. If you had to chose ONE music group who would it be? Mine is defiantly...
The Who
Kiss, Judas Priest, Ramones, Stone Temple Pilots, Iron Maiden, Collective Soul, Shinedown, Stones, Elvis, Van Halen, and of course, the Beatles.
Well if I had to pick one band I've loved over the years it would be.... PHISH!
purely for their live show experiences - which are A-MAZ-ING
But I also love Muse, Snow Patrol, Killers, U2, Dylan, Hendrix, Dave Matthews, Kate Nash, Coldplay, Smiths, Ani Difranco, Oasis, Bowie, Pink, Velvet Underground, MJ, and many more...!
I'm with Audiobrain here. All. Time. Best. (With a slight preference to the Roger Waters stuff.)
I also love Rush, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews Band, The Black Keys, Clapton doing the blues, and Tom Petty... you know, the real musicians.
There are a million other bands I like - my iTunes collection is ridiculous - but I consider these the Top Shelf along with some very chill selections by Zee Avi, Jeffrey Gaines, acoustic versions of just about anything. My go-to recently has been Seu Jorge's acoustic Bowie covers in Portuguese from The Life Aquatic.
I love all kinds of music. If I had to pick an all time favorite I would have to go with Pink Floyd. I do not care for Justine Bieber. my daughter has me listening to way more top 40 stuff than I have since I was, well, 12.
Apart from the band in my avatar (PJ is #1 in my book), these are my other favorite bands/artists:
Tool
Chevelle
Hum
Monty Montgomery (his songs kind of suck, but he's my favorite guitarist I've seen/heard play, video below)
A lot of my favorite albums come from bands I can no longer stand:
"Absolution" by Muse was amazing, and then they released "The Resistance" and died in my mind
"OK Computer" by Radiohead -- I wish they'd just release music...I'm not a fan of produced sounds....
"Frogstomp" by Silverchair -- I can't believe these guys peaked at 16!
and bands that I don't celebrate their entire catalogue:
"Ultimate Experience" by Hendrix - Castles Made of Sand, Little Wing, Watchtower...so much greatness
"Superunknown" by Soundgarden -- could listen to this anytime..older and newer stuff, not so much...
"Animals" by Pink Floyd -- probably contains my favorite songs other than Goodbye Blue Sky
"The Great Escape Artist" by Jane's Addiction -- my fav newer rock CD I've heard..odd, I didn't used to like Jane's Addiction
...and other artists close to my heart include: John Butler Trio, Tori Amos, Metallica, Pantera, Machine Head, Nirvana, Snoop Dog...but listening to those artists requires a certain "mindset" for me.
Here's some vids of the non-popular stuff I like for those that are bored and/or interested:
Monte Montgomery - "Little Wing" live cover (so many great and different versions, here's just one!)
Hum - "Stars" official video (seen on Beavis and * for about 12 seconds! lol)

Love.
So, you are not going with the obvious here?
There's a reason many of these bands can't get on a label. Just sayin'.
Me too.

(I guess I'd better mention that Pearl Jam will be playing in Chicago at Wrigley Field in July...I guess I have at least one plan for the summer!)
