Well can never pick one favorite, but a quick list that is sure to leave off many, but trying to cover all genres that I like:

Shellac (Big Black and Rapeman too, love Steve Albini)
    Mission to Burma
    Sonic Youth
    Yo La Tengo
    Naked Raygun
Government Issue (and the whole Dischord label and everything on it)
Do Make Say Think (thank you Canada for this)
    Bad Brains
    Modest Mouse
    Battles
    Stereo Total
    Franz Liszt
    Rossini
    Johnny Cash
Hank Williams Sr (stay away from Jr)
    Del the Funky Homosapien
    Miles Davis
    Amy Winehouse

and I could keep going, but I figure that is enough for now

"Animals" by Pink Floyd -- probably contains my favorite songs other than Goodbye Blue Sky

Animals is my all-time favorite album. :D

(I guess I'd better mention that Pearl Jam will be playing in Chicago at Wrigley Field in July...I guess I have at least one plan for the summer!)

While I cannot stand Pearl Jam an Senor Vedder voice sends glass shard **** down my spine upon hearing that bellowing screech...does the above imply you live in or around Chicago as I do or would just make the trek to the city to ruin your ears at such an event? And I do jest, I do not care who people listen too, they just never hit a chord with me.

I love that there are so many varied answers here.

For me, my two absolute favourites are the Tragically Hip and Pearl Jam. Both are spectacular live and always worth the price of admission.

For those unfamiliar with the Hip, the song below does a great job encapsulating the live experience. In the middle (starting around the 2 minute mark), Gord Downie breaks into a fantastic improvised story about swimming with killer whales.

Change the "m" in the beginning of the URL to "www" and remove the "#/" in the middle. Oh yeah, also remove everything including and after "&desktop". Mobile links won't work.

I use to live in Chicago for a time, now I'm downstate in between Chicago, *. Louis, Indy. You can take pleasure in knowing that I've been tortured by Sonic Youth about 10 times...they've opened for pearl jam WAY TOO MANY times. Eddie is a compassionate man; he takes pity on those with significantly less talent. Note; I'm not an "Eddie is god" person. I wish he'd shut up at times, and I would never listen to his solo ukulele project. I know many people who hate his voice, and I intentionally play the worst sounding PJ vocals to annoy them.

Mdfriend--is that Liszt as in the composer? I'm a big fan of classical piano as well.

Ah, touche on the Sonic Youth jab. Shame on you using the word s.aint!

I do agree that while I cannot stand his voice, and he can be quite full of himself, he overall is a compassionate person, and I always respected their fight with Ticketmaster.

Yes, that Liszt is the composer, just love his work. Love classical, Rossini I know I mentioned is another favorite. Those two get good rotation on the iPod. I have to admit that I am a sucker for the harpsichord

    http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/2012/01/pearl_jam_worst_90s_band.php

... "a name which has terrified children ever since" ...

A good couple of minutes read... Made my day...

Where were the facts? Seems like a bitter blogger, and his criticism is only 20 years past being relevant. It would have been nice to see some evidence of "ripping off." Blogs and bungholes...you know the saying. I've read better criticisms while pooping in public restrooms. I have to laugh at people like the poster who hate things that are more popular than what they like. Usually, this equals "failed/crappy musician." To each their own, but you usually only make yourself look salty. I may not like a lot of bands, but I respect most of them. I don't respect people with no intelligence, or people who are entertained by reading their blogs. Sorry troll, do you like anything? Or do you just like to rip on what others like?

You missed the fact in there "Eddie Vedder, a name which has terrified children ever since."

In all seriousness though I am sorry for starting the bashing of any band. As I said in my original response I am fine with anyone liking anything, I do not have to like it. Sorry again, twas no intent of mine to take this there.

And on a different note, any composers strike a chord with you worth mentioning?

Man it was just a fun read. I have to tell you though that in Eastern Europe, except for some time in the early 90s, nobody heard anything else about Pearl Jam. Now for all the sad people out there grab some hard liqueur and listen to the fantastic sound of:

You can't say you've seen a live concert until you've seen Rammstein Live! Whatever type of music you listen you have to see them live.

And I hope you didn't call me an troll, but whoever that blogger was. Anyway, it doesn't matter if you like the band or not, some of that stuff there is funny!

And as far as what other kind of music I listen to, I already bought a couple of months ago tickets to the Roger Waters - The Wall Concert (~ 50 Euros/Ticket, damn Eastern Europe is expensive!).

To clarify, I did call you a troll: you posted 3 times before actually stating your favorite band, and that was only in response to me (2 posts ripped on bands. I'm not sure what the first post was, never heard of those names. If those are bands you like, sorry, I retract my troll statement.)

That video raises more questions than it answered... I don't speak German (I think that was German), so I'm not sure if that was a serious song or or something comical. Regardless, rammstein HAS to be better live than on that video. All I know of rammstein is "du hast." It was popular in america for about 4 days before the novelty wore off. I'm sure they have better material, but I'm not aware of it or inclined to seek it out. That video dissuaded me from any curiosity I may have had. I was entertained by it, but not in the way I want to be entertained whilst listening to music. Keep on rocking!

And here is the original version of that song (from 2001 - clip shot in 2012), the piano version was made, just like you wrote, to be entertaining (a Bonus material):

And I don't see how saying that Bono wants Biddy is ripping him off? :D (I saw U2 and Pearl Jam in some comments, so to clarify. it was not a response to You, Mister :D

So grab yourself a Beer and lighten up :!:

Beethoven is one I like but then I love all types of music and have a large selection of CDs.
A bit of hip hop, country, musical theatre, some pop, classic rock my fave. I do theme dinners, costumes, decorations, and I cook the native dishes such as Hawaiian, French, German, Greek, Jamaican etc. Music is a big part of that.
Next ones will be Family Day/Valentine then *. Patrick's and Easter and so on.

I love any group/artist that could sing and play instruments. :) For instance: WAR, Jimi Hendrix, EW&F, The Delfonics and so many more. I get my rap on too with Old School artists, 2pac, Snoop Dogg, Beastie Boys and a few more. I love Etta James, Billie Holiday, Phyllis H.yman, Minnie Riperton, Teena Marie and a few others like Mary J, Aaliyah, Faith and Mariah. My list can go on indefinite, but that's just the range of what I listen to.
