Welp ... I don't come here with the notion to play kissy kissy pretty face huggy puppy flowers and sparkles with everyone.
I hate when people say "we" a lot ... 'we are a nice bunch of people' ... 'we believe' ... 'we want'. Speak for yourselves, not for others. I rarely say "we" since my opinion is MY opinion, and I often don't know if it's shared by a large number of other folk.
I don't speak for you unless you have willingly accredited me that right and responsibility. You don't speak for me as I never have, and never will, grant some random internet stranger such rights over me.
I hate being lectured in a goody-two-shoes teetotaler manner as if I were a recalcitrant kindergartener.
Some people are offended by speech or behavior that others think is simply edgy or funny. I am offended by overweening piousness and petty hand-wringing over minor things.
The OP, Anna, didn't give any explicit examples of the "negativity" she's concerned with, so I honestly have no idea if she is simply reacting to the spate of complaints that showed up due (in my opinion) to the contemporaneous crash/recovery/remake of the TSTO forum along with the start of a new and heavily anticipated event, both being situations which could individually result in lots of expressions of unhappiness (negativity?) over perceived faults or failures to meet expectations.
I earlier wrote something in another thread to the effect that I felt that there was a lot of 'whining' on this board at the start of this THOH event, so perhaps what I saw as "whiners and crybabies" is what she saw as "negativity"? Or perhaps it was my reaction to the whining crybabies that she feels is negative? I don't know. And now that I've expressed my thoughts on the matter, I no longer care.
@BongoPickle@Kratos6283 I don't think Anna meant complaints about the game when saying negativity, she's more than likely referencing the useless comments some people make consistently on other people's posts such as accusing them of cheating (when it's clearly explained that they're not), calling a person stupid or the likes of that for expressing and opinion or idea they don't agree with, or even just the "jokes" some people make which could be hurtful to some forum users.
I'd love to just name and shame this people so they'd cop on but sure that would hypocritical on a post against negativity
It seems that people are trying to interpret this thread into something other than what was intended. What I'm assuming the OP meant is, how antagonistically some people respond to other people's comments. And trying to belittle that, by likening it to ponytails and flowers, etc... Just to justify being nasty, is ridiculous.
If the only way you can express yourself is by being rude to others, than that's a problem.
I think some people's idea of humor is neither edgy or funny, nor do I find the constant lame silliness fun, but if that's what some people like, so be it, Different strokes for different folks. It in no way affects my enjoyment of this place.
I'm tired of people acting like something wrong with you, because you can't relate to them.
Forums are made up of all different types of people. But when humor is used as an excuse for being disrespectful to others, then that's not OK, IMO.
Im tired of people making excuses for being J****! & J********!
I totally agree with having different opinions and I learn from different play styles. The only thing I point out is, how you bring out the different opinion. We can just bring up our different opinion, we don't not have to do it rudely. A few here just jumps and attack whoever expressed a different opinion than theirs. The hostility is unnecessary. No need to attack someone else just because they don't agree with you. It is painful even reading how these few attack everyone who writes about a different opinion. I feel bad for the people attacked.

There are a lot of different types of folks here. I primarily lurk because for the most part, most of what I might have to say most likely has already been said, and I do not feel the need to pipe into every conversation like some around here do. I have not spent a lot of time reading many threads lately because it seems to always devolve into the same old Bee-esS.
The OP has a good point for those who think of this forum as "their place," and there are a lot of those folks here that fall into that category. For others who might grouse at this "PC" approach, they have no care whether this place is welcoming or not; they do not consider this place "their place;" they are like the folks who go to the beach or a park and leave their garbage for someone else to pick up...leave it for the groundskeepers to clean up...that is what we pay them for.
There are many different opinions, and many different ways to express those opinions. I welcome opposing views, but there are many who feel the need to put others down as a way to elevate themselves. This is not welcome here in my opinion, but you also have many here who enable those who would treat others badly.
For those that feel some of us need to grow up and accept this behavior, some of us are grown up; that is why we recognize that this behavior is not necessary, and is counterproductive. Most of us do know how to joke around, and know what is meant to be funny (remember, most of us are Simpsons fans), and what is just stupid. I am not a delicate flower and I can handle adversity and stupidity; that does not mean I have to take it and be quiet about it.
I said this before in another thread: people really need to think before they post. Just because you CAN post, does not mean you SHOULD. I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to blast someone for saying something; I have even gone so far as to start typing out a flaming response, but when I sit back and take a look at what I am typing, I think to myself "why bother," and I move on. I just wish others would try and suppress the urge to post when it is not necessary.

-- bearing in mind that I generally don't go to kindergartener parties or tupperware parties or huggy puppy kissy face sparkles and flowers parties ... I go to parties where people drink alcohol, eat pizza and chips, make bad jokes, play card games, discuss interesting/stupid/entertaining/asinine internet trends or tv shows, etc. etc. etc. ... :-D

You're everything the USA use to be until we became a bunch of liberal minded sheep who'd rather cry foul over the slightest inconvenience. Kudos sir.

I haven't seen any truly offensive posting by people, no flame wars, no vicious trolling ... I saw some mildly annoying complaints and counter-complaints.
Then Anna posted a VERY VAGUE message which was NOT directed at anybody specifically and did NOT contain any specific examples of the types of posts she felt were 'negative'.
So it could be interpreted to mean ... well, anything really. What you find to be negative is not necessarily what I find to be negative which is not necessarily what she finds to be negative.
Her post came across to me like a schoolmarm scolding children ... I feel it has a somewhat pretentious tone after all is said and done.
Look at it this way ... go ahead and walk into a room full of adults and start saying things like 'the negativity here is offensive and off-putting' and 'why can't we all just get along' and 'there's no need to be rude or sarcastic' ... don't say it to anyone in particular, be very general and vague ... AAAAaaaaaaand ... see just how long it takes before a sizeable number of those folk take you to task for it.
I'm not saying that Anna intended to be pretentious, or to sound naive, or to otherwise be generally insulting (even though her post gave me all those vibes). I'm saying that she was vague and non-specific which is dangerous in internet forums since that ALWAYS leads to confusion or misinterpretation, and eventually to blowback.
If the only way you can express yourself is by being rude to others, than that's a problem.
Perhaps you aren't actually saying my commentary was rude, but as you were replying to my comment that's what I inferred. Are you saying I was rude? If so, in what manner?

Reasons =/= excuses.
If I can't relate to someone else, it doesn't mean that something is wrong either of us, but it definitely means there is a lack of understanding. Being vague and making generalizations doesn't help clarify, doesn't create understanding, doesn't bring people closer together.
What you think is "being J and J" may very well be jolly good fun to others. Is your opinion better than theirs?
Are all disagreements disrespectful, or just the ones done in a 'snarky' or joking manner?
What exactly do you find to be disrespectful? What manner of verbiage would you consider to be respectful? Why should there be any respect at all?
Perhaps we can cease with the non-specific generalizations and seek to sow clarity instead of generate confusion.
Here's my piece of clarity: I don't know what Anna was referring to as "negativity". She did not specify any particular posts or verbiage. I find *that* to be annoying, and posted a reply that used a touch of snark and a lightly mocking tone to highlight how her vague post could easily be interpreted/mis-interpreted to mean just about anything. I attacked no-one, I insulted no-one. And, fwiw, I will continue to use 'snark' and make mock of others when I find such prose to be entertaining to me even if not nominally useful in furthering the dialog.

Okay, you just said you are making an assumption, right after castigating others for doing exactly that? This is why there is war in Syria.
