How honest are you?

Prev13
If you find money in a shop or another public place what would you do. Would you pocket the cash or would you hand it in? Now I just found £5 again but this time it was in a shop so I just handed it in. Also do you know that you can be prosecuted for not handing it in or trying to find the owner?
I just read that some women found a £20 note in a shops cash machine and pocket it instead of handing it in. I can't remember the fine she got but also got a 6 month order to keep herself out of trouble.

  • Hand it in. I was at a concert and left my seat to go to the restroom. On the way I found one hundred dollars on the ground. I handed it over to the nearest usher.

  • Another time I used the drive-up at a bank. A twenty dollar bill was left in the tube. I turned it in.

You are mighty honest for someone with 666 posts...

I think it depends on the situation. I would probably hand it in but if there's nobody to be seen or i find it in let's say a casino or something, then it's tough luck.

Rien ne va plus, the money is no longer from you!
  • I hand it in in shops or pubs etc. Outside of shops I keep it. I found one in my garden next to my bins. It must have blown out of their hands if they can't be bothered to chase after it then am not bothered to look for the owner which would be a pain to do so.

Going back a good few years about 10 or more I was out shopping and dropped some money it wasn't till I was out of the shop that I realised I lost some money. I went to go to customer services when a woman approached me to ask had I lost some money cause I look flustered and said I had and she gave me it back. Her daughter had found it and she was about to hand it in. I was greatful that day.
  • I only found money once, it was a $20 half buried in a sand dune at the beach....i kept it.
  • and see, its things like that, that stops me from pocketing it...my brother on the other hand...he always finds money and he always pockets it, always...hes found 100 dollars once and bought some girl drinks....with it...but whatever thats him...

  • It depends really on the situation. If it's in a public place like shops pubs etc then I would hand it in. If it's outside then I would keep it.

I can't think of the last time that I found money, but if I was in a public place I would return it. I have seen people drop money a few times and I made sure to pick it up and return it to them.

This is me. But this question reminds me of a time when my daughter was little, maybe 3-4 years old, I took her to a county fair. We spent most of our afternoon walking back to the fair office to turn in odd items that she kept finding... a raggedy doll, a pacifier, odd amounts of coins, a sippy cup, a dirty teddy bear :o She was old enough to realize that lost items have value to those who lost them, just couldn't quite grasp what was important yet. Oh well, we had a fun day.

  • I once found $5 on the floor in the parking lot of the place I used to work. I was with another 3 friends, and since we were not going to find the owner of the money, and the value was pretty low, we went to the grocery shop, bought a $5 chocolate and split in 4 pieces. :grimace:

  • Some woman wasn't paying any attention to what she was doing she had her headphones on and a small purse in her hand with her phone and she dropped 2 cash cards on the floor and she didn't notice. I picks them up and had to quickly catch her up she had gotten quite far by that time. I gabe them back to her. She was luckily am honest if it was non honest people they would have used her cards either with contactless in shops or online.

I don't think many people would actually try and use a card they found (unless they were criminals anyway) as everyone knows that would literally be stealing (Not to mention being risky). It's very different to finding a bit of money on the floor and not knowing whose it was!

I know what your saying Juliet but people don't have to be criminals they can be junkies or alcoholics. All they got to do is buy something small in a shop and ask for cash back I think it's £50 tops there was 2 cards and if they manage to get £100 that's a lot to them. You'll be surprised how many dishonest people who aren't criminals who would "try their luck" for a bit of cash.
