They don't sync up in time either. At the moment I have 4 of them finishing at the same time and the other 3 finishing at completely different times.

The "daily prize" is from the mystery box? What if I got the mystery box first thing this morning before I could complete the work shop? Do I lose today's prize? I can't remember if I got it this morning or not.

Nope got my misery price today, and I just received the first prizes from the special task (a snowman, and an extra elf). Once you have the workshop completed and received the elf door, you will be able to start the task to receive the daily prices and bonus.
So if I understand you, we have a chance of winning/collecting something when visiting friends, sort of like when we find a donut while visiting?
No. You only get prizes from the daily reward thing (you get an elf instead of a mystery box, and presents instead of cash) and by doing quests/santas tasks.

When I said collect presents to get prizes, I meant the prizes like the Part 1 and Part 2 prizes.

No it's the daily play bonus. My B town gave me the elf but my A town doesn't have the elf yet.
He/she should be in your Toy Workshop, busy making toys. I think it just adds another elf to your workers instead of giving you a NPC.
