I'm getting the sinking feeling you may be right. As long as I'm able to get all of the prizes, I'll be happy, though.
I'll be happy too with all the Elf Bell prizes (and even get a few freebie donuts after that), but the 3rd Cannon Skin looks sooo much better. Sucks that this will be the first freemium event-item that I'll miss out on (except for 2 items from "The Event We Do Not Name" *shudder*).
There's 3 "looks" to it - Level 1, Level 10, Level 20. Sort of like how the Krustyland Bus Stop looks different depending on what * rating you have in Krustyland.
Seems to me that less elves are being generated. I used to have lots of bottled ones left over after shooting 33 each time, now I can not do all 3 at once anymore.
Are people actually getting 12-15 elves per hour???? I'm thinking I need to contact support or something. I've tested mine several times now and am getting only 6 measly elves an hour.

I'm guessing that the event will be extended for the benefit of players who have experienced issues. I was hoping that somewhere along the line there is something that increases the number of elves per hour? Maybe not.
As far as "bragging rights" levels go, I'm not going to worry too much as my Wizard Marge is still back at Level 1. The same could happen with the Elf Cannon.
wait... the event finishes dec. 18th still.. you can get prizes till 13th but event ends on 18th
anyway i'm asking the other admins @tstotopix info on this. just wait
You get 4 Cogs per Elf, but Cogs only seem to be a drop rate of only 20%-25%.
(If you assume 25% drop rate, it looks like 1 per Elf as drop rate cancels out 4 Cogs per drop.)
There's no point in upgrading the cannon if we're only getting 6 elves an hour.
This is why it's so confusing. There is no incentive to upgrade your cannon other than the bonus quest to level 10, so why would anyone buy cogs from the store? Would anyone really spend hundreds of donuts just to have a nicer looking cannon?

At first glance that seems true, but it assumes you will be firing the cannon every time it is ready. If, for instance, I am getting 18 elves every 3 hours and can fire off 33 elves every 3 hours with an upgraded cannon, it seems I will not always have a full load (eg, 33 elves) to shoot.
But I sleep. so, I fire the cannon, at best, as follows: 8AM, 11, 2PM, 5, 8, 11 (Hypothetical!). That's 6 times.
And if I sleep 8 hours, I come back to 48 elves, plus 4 from the tunnel door. I fire off 33, and have 19 elves to compensate through the day so I'll have enough to load the cannon. At least, that's for now. Later levels will make it a bit worse ... But ...
USA/UK Race To Throw Country Into Utter Chaos = TOO CLOSE TO CALL

Upgrading the canon also increases the number of bells per shot which makes the elves worth more.
At levels 8, 12, 15, 17,18, and 19 the number of bells per shot increases by 1.
After tonight all my reserves will be depleted and I'm a few days ahead of the daily tally. I'm wonder if I should just bank elf jars for awhile until I level up a few more times.

Even after waiting 8 hours it wouldn't be enough. So wake up at 8AM with 52 elves, shoot the cannon 3 times (33) and you have 19 left. At 11:00, you'll have those 19 plus the 18 earned in 3 hours, and after shooting that cannon you're left with 4. So after 2 cannon rounds you won't have enough for the 3rd.
No matter which way you look at it, in one day you're getting 144 + 12 from the cave, which is enough to shoot the cannon only 14 times, when the full potential of the cannon would be 24 in a day. And these numbers are based on a level 8 cannon. The elf spawn rate would need to triple or quadruple to hit the level 20 numbers...
Have edited original calcs to reflect LPNintendo's posted rates.
That also means we'll all be lucky to reach Level 16!!
So if you wanted to make it to Level 20:
Level 17 = 1,360 donuts
Level 18 = 1,520 donuts
Level 19 = 1,700 donuts
Level 20 = 1,880 donuts TOTAL = 6,460 donuts
(or US$269.14 worth for those buying in Boatloads)
Cannon is level 6, shot 542 elves so far. I have 127 elves in jars in reserve. I know I've missed some cannon shots due to Xmas season, sleep, and I know I will miss more due to work. Haven't used donuts to rush anything. So wondering, people without elves: did you use donuts, and how many elves have you shot?

Had no idea. As long as I get all the prizes that's all I care about.
Ditto. It seems really slow!

also you get more then 1 cog x elf

+ the 50 cogs every 5 days
