I would've liked the drive in theatre to give you a few bells for playing the happy little elves movie. The elf tunnels don't appear to do anything when I tap the elf face. Are the elves placed randomly in your town or something?

Unlike other item/decos that when you tapped during an event they show up exactly where that item/deco was, this one just makes random elves appear.
I don't check in that often as I knew I would be busy for a few weeks and spent a rather large amount of donuts speeding up things/advancing items and I am about to get Ralph's costume. I would go into my town and see the elf symbol above the elf door and tap it and get the message "Your town in overrun with elves, make room for more" or something to that effect. After using the zapper to go through my town and collect/zap all of the others it would let me "open" that door. It would spread them ALL OVER THE PLACE and I would have to use my "swirling zapper of doom" method and scroll all around town again to get all the little buggers.
I do come on about once an hour to tap the elves, and get the cannon 5 times a day. My cannon upgrade is at level 6 and I go through all my friends as well..... I seem to be only about 800 bells ahead of the chart though, so not sure how you guys are 3-4 days ahead of the chart.....am I missing something?

Maximize your bells from friends by tapping only the cannon and the elf tunnel (they each reward double) (note: I'm sort of lazy and basically make 1 pass where I either tap the cannon/tunnel or a single building and then later in the day I make a second pass until I run out of bells)
(your friends only get bells back if they clear handshakes from the cannon or the tunnel (handshakes anywhere else just get cash)

I didnt know about this glitch either, but it does explain how some people can be on lvl 8 or more of the cannon upgrades. I am struggling to have enough elves to shoot out of the cannon let alone get the cogwheels.....I currently have no bottles left (I was 1 shy in my last cannon) - can see how I can get 30 for the next one......

I'm also commenting in the spawn rate thread (I'm running another test to see if leaving the app running in the background and not returning for 3 hours will show me 3 for 15 minutes or 3 for 30 minutes as my usual way of playing was to get done playing for the night and then shut everything done (because a turned on tablet makes me more likely to postpone sleep)

I'm around 1 day or slightly less ahead and I don't understand how others are so far ahead either
Not having a shortage of elves though I am Level 6 at the the cannon too. I expect as the cannon increases I will soon run out of my back log! I seem to be getting 3 every 15 minutes although I often have to go in/out of KL for them to appear.
If you work fulltime and aren't able to tap during your breaks you can still be on track. My sister works full time with limited access to her game and still manages to keep close to the daily schedule needed to earn all of the prizes.
Just keep at it, this "am I going to make it" happens every single event to everyone.
Reiterating what everyone said. It's very possible. I work all day and can only tap at lunch, and I'm two days ahead of the chart.
If I had to give just ONE hint, it would be this:
PUT. YOUR. CANNON. BESIDE. YOUR. ELF. TUNNEL.

I have been about even the whole way along, but the bigger problem I am having is I am not getting enough elves to tap (and I come on and clear them all often)
So when I fire my cannon, I only shoot 10-15 instead of 33. I've been able to shoot the cannon 5-6 times per day but only get half of the bells I should be getting.....and because I dont have enough elves, i cant shoot the cannon 3 times, so the timer doesnt reset to get 3 new shots (if this makes sense)
Anyone got any ideas of what I am doing wrong and/or how to overcome this?

You get a lot of additional bells from visiting neighbors, and when neighbors visit you and tap on your cannon or elf tunnel.
Right now I get 165 bells every Time I shoot the cannon 3 times. I can do this 5-6 times a day. I can get 825-990 bells a day from just that. It's just going to increase over time so even tough I'm about 500 bells behind I'm confident that I'll have more than enough to get the final prize.
